Analysis: At 2:20 pm, our selection is on the Texas Rangers over the Chicago Cubs. The Rangers have gotten some clutch pitching performances this season, helping them overcome the loss of some key offensive players in the off-season, as well as injuries to regular starters Matt Harrison and Colby Lewis. None of those performances has been any more important than the pitching of righthander Alexi Ogando, who was almost an afterthought at the beginning of the season, but just might be the best (or at worst, second-best) starter in the rotation right now. All Ogando, who was a reliever last season, has done is go 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in three starts for the Rangers. Ogando has 17 strikeouts and just five walks in just under 17 innings and although he's never faced the Cubs before, he shouldn't mind an inter-league start this afternoon as Ogando is 4-2 with a 2.33 ERA in nine appearances - four starts - against the National League. For the Cubs, righthander Carlos Villanueva has a 0.64 ERA through his first two starts, but zero wins to show for his efforts as the Chicago bullpen has been unkind to him just like it's been unkind to just about every other Cubs starter. Since the demotion of erratic former stopper Carlos Marmol and the forearm injury to Kyuji Fujikawa that has landed him on the DL, the Cubs are left with no one to close games. The Cubs are 6-15 in their last 21 inter-league games. Take the Rangers.

Analysis: At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Toronto Blue Jays over the Chicago White Sox. Sox ace lefthander Chris Sale had arguably the worst start of his young but so far brilliant career in his last outing when he allowed eight runs on eight hits with just three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings in Cleveland. With his unorthodox (some people would say downright ugly) delivery, one has to wonder if Sale is going to eventually break down the way Tim Lincecum did last season and so far in 2013, although it took Lincecum many years for the poor mechanics to catch up to him. Perhaps Sale won't be so lucky, or perhaps - he hopes - last Saturday's early exit against the Tribe was just a one-off bad start. Sale would probably rather have his first start back from that debacle against someone other than the Jays and their strong lineup as he's never started against them in his career, although he's 0-1 against them with a 3.60 ERA in three relief appearances. R.A. Dickey may have seen a turnaround to his season with his last start when he notched his first win of the season in Kansas City with 6 1/3 very strong innings against the Royals. Dickey looks to build on that quality victory tonight at home against the Sox. Take the Jays.

Analysis: At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the Miami Marlins and Cincinnati Reds 'under' the total. With Johnny Cueto having just recently gone on the DL for a strained muscle in his back, the Reds will call up rookie lefthander Tony Cingrani for his debut as an MLB starter and you couldn't hand-pick a first-time opponent more advantageous than the 2013 Miami Marlins who have scored a league-worst 31 runs and can't seem to put runners across the plate if their lives depended on it. Normally you might say that even a weak Major League offense would have an advantage against a first-time starter, but in this case, Cingrani has shown in both in the Majors last season as a reliever and in the Minors as a starter that he is no ordinary rookie. Last year, Cingrani had a 1.80 ERA in three appearances with the Reds with nine strikeouts and two walks in just five innings, and this season he has put up almost unheard of numbers in three starts at AAA Louisville (no runs on three hits in 14 1/3 innings with 26 strikeouts and just two walks). All indications are that Cingrani is ready for this debut tonight, and if those AAA numbers are any indication, he may stick in the rotation even after Cueto comes back. Of course there's a rookie on the other side tonight that's not too bad either as righthander Jose Fernandez has been near-perfect in his two starts with the Fish so far. Take the 'under.'

Analysis: At 10:35 pm, our selection is on the San Jose Sharks over the Minnesota Wild. It's been a mixed bag of a season for the Sharks in 2013, who are currently sitting with a 23-13-7 record and 53 points which puts them in a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference playoff picture with last year's Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings. If they can move up another place in the post-season seeding, they could be very tough, at least in the early rounds as the Sharks have played 21 games at home this season, and have only lost one of those in regulation (15-1-5) which would make them a very difficult and feared opponent playing in front of the San Jose faithful. Catching Anaheim for the Pacific Division crown is probably a stretch at this point, but the Sharks can still move past the Kings and so games like this one are critical especially since there's a chance that Minnesota could be their first round playoff opponent. San Jose is 1-1 so far this season against the Wild, so being able to take the season series would definitely give them a psychological edge for future meetings as well. The Sharks are 12-3 in their last 15 games vs. teams from the Northwest Division. Take San Jose

The Kings come off a tough loss to San Jose on the road in extra time by a score of 2-3 and are typically one of the best teams in the league on a bounce-back. Columbus has been great of late winning 5 straight but I suspect that they could find it tough sledding against a Kings team who has outscored them 6-3 over the last 2 gamest this year. As good as Columbus has been, they can struggle against strong defensive teams such as losing 1-3 to St. Louis on the road earlier this year. The Kings are 7th in the league in defense, 3rd in shots against, whereas Columbus is 25th in the league in offensive efficiency. Combine that with the Kings 4-1 when facing a team with 1 day of rest and 4-1 when facing a team after scoring 2 or less goals in their previous game, I like the Kings to step-out here and likely win this game on the puck-line as they will take it as a challenge to stop the streaking Blue Jackets.

The Orioles have done well on bounce-backs all year and its a good opportunity for us to take them here again. Bear in mind that the O's have not lost back to back games since April 6th and 7th which is of note as they come off a 2-6 loss yesterday. I suspect they will get up to face David Price today who has pitched 2 of 3 quality starts but is still seeking his first win. Miguel Gonzalez has pitched in 2 tough environments including at Yankee stadium and at Tropicana and has yielded 4 runs in 10 hits overall in about 12 innings worth of work. Will Tampa Bay have revenge, yes they will against Gonzalez. But note that the Rays are just 1-6 in their last 7 games when facing right handers on the road and the Orioles have historically done well with Gonzalez pitching coming off a loss as they are 4-0 in such cases and Gonzalez is 4-0 at home to boot.

4-Unit Pick Take #54 Toronto (-1.25) over New York Islanders (7pm, Thursday , April 18th)
This is a interesting game with two teams that have been absent from the playoffs for years looking like both will make it this year, in fact Toronto will clinch a playoff berth with a win tonight. The Islanders have done well on the road this year with a 12-5-2 record away from Long Island so they won't be a push over for Toronto. I like this spot for the Maple Leafs, Toronto is coming off one of their worst games of the year losing in Washington 5-1 but that was off of beating the Candiens in a emotional home win so you could almost give them a pass. I think this team will be focused and emotional invested to clinch tonight, cheap price to lay for the situation.

New Jersey is a mystery losing ten straight games and being shutout in their last two games, the Devils have outplayed some of these oppenets but their lack of scoring has kept them down. Philadelphia is playing good hockey winning three straight that included back to back wins in consecutive days beating Montreal and then coming home and beating a Rangers team fighting for their playoff lives. They get a New Jersey team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year and has beating Philadelphia in three of the four times they have played this year. These two teams are just going in opposite directions right now and I will back the team playing better hockey right now, take the Flyers over the struggling Devils here.

2-Unit Pick Take Over (5) Phoenix at St. Louis (8 pm, Thursday, April 18th)




The Blues have been winning by low scoring outcomes winning seven of their last nine games with the under going cashing six times with two pushes and a over in there but all the value is sucked out of this total sitting at 5 goals with juice shaded to the under. Phoenix is out of the playoff picture which their defensive style should lesson, the Coyotes have given up 40+ shots in two of their last four games and are playing without goalie Mike Smith. I think this one might be played at a loose style and will get over the total.
