                      NBA

                      Wednesday, May 15

Miami shot 50.7/51.4/60.0/50.0/48.5% in five games they beat Chicago this year, 46.2/48.1/39.7% in three losses. Miami won 15 of its last 16 games overall; they're 7-1 in playoffs, with no wins by less than 10 points. Team that led at halftime won all seven series games so far this season (one game was tied). Chicago has been mentally tough in playoffs, they compete like hell, but reality is their 3rd string PG starts now- he was 0-12 last game. Bulls scored 15-18-9 points in first quarter of Game 4; very hard to believe this series doesn't end tonight.

Memphis won seven of last eight games, losing by hoop in Game 1; last six series games were decided by six or less points. Durant was 10-27 in OT loss Monday, when OC squandered 17-point 1st half lead. Thunder PG Westbrook is out for this series, cannot forget that, so you have subs at a key position trying to bear starters. Oklahoma City hasn't made more than 43% of its shots from floor in any game this series. Memphis is 7-3-1 vs spread last 11 times they were an underdog. 18 of the last 24 Thunder games stayed under the total.

Blackhawks had pretty easy time in first round, dispatching Minnesota in five games, while Red Wings played four OT tilts in a 7-game marathon with Anaheim, which also included four long plane trips. Chicago is 9-1 in its last ten home games; Red Wings lost last three visits here, all by a single goal. Detroit is 5-7 in its last dozen road games overall.

                          Wednesday, May 15

Wednesday's NHL playoff action: What bettors need to know

Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks (-195, 5)

While the Eastern Conference has the Boston Bruins facing the New York Rangers, the West has its own second-round series involving Original Six teams as the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks host the seventh-seeded Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. The showdown is the opener of the set between the Central Division rivals. After beginning the lockout-shortened season with an NHL-record 24-game point streak, Chicago went on to win the second Presidents' Trophy in franchise history. The Blackhawks made short work of Minnesota in the first round of the postseason, eliminating the Wild in five games.

Detroit waited until the final day of the regular season to extend its streak to 22 consecutive playoff appearances, sneaking into one of the last spots in the West. The Red Wings upset Pacific Division champion Anaheim, posting overtime victories in Games 2, 4 and 6 before edging the Ducks 3-2 on the road in Game 7. Detroit and Chicago are meeting in the postseason for the 16th time, and first since the Red Wings rolled past the Blackhawks in five games in the 2009 conference final. Chicago, which won all four regular-season meetings with Detroit, holds the all-time edge in postseason matchups, 8-7.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, RDS

ABOUT THE RED WINGS: Captain Henrik Zetterberg recorded a team-high eight points against Anaheim and shared the goal-scoring lead with Johan Franzen, who also tallied three times. All three of Zetterberg's goals came in the final two games of the series. While he may have been battling a hamstring problem, Jimmy Howard played well enough for the Red Wings to oust the Ducks. But the netminder certainly doesn't think he performed at his best, as his 2.74 goals-against average and .911 save percentage can attest. "I still think I can be better for the guys," Howard told the Detroit News. Coach Mike Babcock could make a change to the team's fourth line on Wednesday as Mikael Samuelsson is a bit banged up. Cory Emmerton and Jordin Tootoo are options to replace the veteran Swede.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS: Patrick Sharp scored a team-best five goals in the first round and shared the club lead of six points with former Red Wing Marian Hossa. Despite his team needing only five games to defeat Minnesota, coach Joel Quenneville was not happy with the effort from some of his players. Viktor Stalberg appears to be his main target as the right wing did not have a spot on any of the top four lines during practices leading up to the series opener against Detroit. "I don't really have anything to say about it," Stalberg said. "Ask (Quenneville)." Tempers flared during Tuesday's practice as Daniel Carcillo and Jamal Mayers exchanged words and slashes and appeared ready to drop the gloves before defenseman Duncan Keith intervened. Quenneville was not concerned. "I've seen it escalate to a different level. I thought that was kind of on the friendly side," he said. "I wouldn't consider it that bad."

                          TRENDS:

                          * Under is 4-0-1 in the last five meetings in Chicago.
                          * Under is 18-7-1 in the last 26 meetings.
                          * Road team is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings.
                          * Red Wings are 1-4 in the last five meetings in Chicago.
                          * Red Wings are 0-7 in the last seven meetings.

                          OVERTIME:

                          1. Chicago went 21-0-3 during its season-opening point streak.

                          2. Detroit scored only five goals in its four regular-season games against Chicago, with Franzen and Emmerton each tallying twice. Captain Jonathan Toews led the Blackhawks in the series with five points.

                          3. The Blackhawks have won seven consecutive meetings between the teams since suffering a 3-2 overtime loss on Jan. 13, 2012.

HP Byron Nelson: Golf betting preview and picks
                            By MATT FARGO

The PGA Tour rolls into Texas this week for the HP Byron Nelson Championship from the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas in Irving, Texas.

The TPC Four Seasons Resort is a 7,166-yard, Par-70 layout and while there are plenty of hazards to deal with, it is the tough wind that players need to figure out. That will be the case again as the forecast is calling for high winds throughout the weekend. Hitting fairways has always been tough here and last year was no exception as players caught the short grass just over 52 percent of the time. Also, familiarity with Texas wind is a good asset to have.

Jason Dufner (+1,500) will look to defend his championship but he is not playing nearly as well this year as he was last year coming in. He had four top tens including a pair of victories but this year he is without a top ten, his highest finish being a T12 at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. A light field could certainly help him but he is not in good form right now.

Jason Day (+1,200) is the favorite this week and for good reason. He is a past champion here as he won in 2010 and followed that up with a solo fifth in 2011 and a T9 last year. He has yet to miss a cut this year, has four top tens including a pair of solo thirds and had a solid Sunday at THE PLAYERS to finish T19. He is ranked 14th in the All-Around with only three players in the field ahead of him.

Louis Oosthuizen (+2,000) is the highest ranked player in the field this week and he is coming off a solid T19 last week at Sawgrass where led the field in driving distance. He did miss the cut at the Byron Nelson last year but that came after a missed cut at THE PLAYERS. He has been all over the place this year and has yet to break through on American soil but his time will come and here is as good of a place as any.

Chances are Jimmy Walker (+2,500) will be around for the weekend as he has made 22 straight cuts, the longest active streak on tour. He has finished outside the top 30 only once this year and he is ranked 10th in the All-Around. He went to college at Baylor so this is right in his back yard and while his best finish here is a T23, he is playing the best golf of his career. This is a fitting place for his first tour win.

Jordan Spieth (+3,000) would typically be in the longshot category but not here with the thin field. He made his PGA Tour debut here with a T16 in 2010 and while he has not been able to better that, this should be the year to do so. He has three top tens to his credit in 2013 including a T2 in Puerto Rico and being from Texas, he knows the wind. He is ranked 12th in the All-Around.

James Driscoll (+15,000) is a huge longshot this week but we will take a chance on the Texas native. He has four top tens in 15 starts in Texas and at the Byron Nelson, he finished T19 last year after a T8 in 2011. He has bounced back from four straight missed cuts with a solid effort at the Wells ***** while finishing T26 last week at THE PLAYERS after a Thursday 75.

Recommended tournament win five pack at HP Byron Nelson Championship (all for one unit)

                            Jason Day (+1,200)
                            Louis Oosthuizen (+2,000)
                            Jimmy Walker (+2,500)
                            Jordan Spieth (+3,000)
                            James Driscoll (+15,000)
