Cardinals lost yesterday trying for the four-game sweep, scoring just two runs in a 5-2 loss. We backed them coming off their previous loss and they scored an easy 6-3 win, rebounding from a two-run, six hit effort with a six-run, 11-hit outburst. We fully expect a similar offensive outburst tonight and he Cards will have full confidence going into this game against Wily Peralta as they already beat him up for six runs in just 4 1/3 innings earlier this month. St. Louis won that game 6-5, but we don't think the Brewers will come anywhere close to putting up that many runs tonight against Jamie Garcia. Garcia has been fantastic here at home with a 2.93 ERA, and even better we catch him off a rare poor outing his last time out where he gave up five runs in six innings. That snapped a streak of three consecutive starts where he held the opposition to just one earned run each time out. Garcia shutout the Brewers over seven innings in his lone home start against them (April), and then on the road held Milwaukee to one run over 8 innings in a 10-1 blowout win (as an underdog). That's one run allowed over 15 innings against this team, and with Milwuakee losing 12 of their last 14 games overall, including just one run scored in each of their last two, we don't see them suddenly breaking out against a motivated pitcher like Garcia tonight. He has been dominant in his last three starts against the Reds, going 1-0 with a 1.61 ERA while allowing just four earned runs in 22 1/3 innings. Analysis:The Astros have been a huge over team this season. The over has cashed 72 percent of the time during Houston's last 26 games.
Look for that trend to continue in a pitching matchup of Jordan Lyles versus Jeanmar Gomez. The over is 12-4-3 during Lyles' last 19 road starts.
Lyles has been a huge disappointment. He's been terrible ever since he's come to the majors and he's not doing the job this season with an 8.36 ERA. In his last start, he yielded eight runs and 11 hits in during four innings to the Rangers. Career-wise versu šs Pittsburgh, Lyles is 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA.
Gomez has been a pleasant surprise, make that shock, for the Pirates posting a 2-0 mark and 2.28 ERA. Gomez is helped coming from the DH-American League, but he's not nearly as good as he's recently shown. He had an 8.74 ERA during his last 10 starts last year with Cleveland.

Lee has allowed just two runs and 11 hits in his last starts spanning 15 innings. He š is 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA during his past five starts against the Reds.

The Reds had to go extra innings on Thursday to beat the Marlins in Miami while the Phillies were idle. They are going with rookie Tony Cingrani, who started fast with a sneaky delivery but the league is catching on to him.

Cingrani allowed six earned runs, including four homers, in his last two starts spanning 10 innings.
