          ACCU-SCORE SOCCER:

Director’s Football Punt of the Week
          Weekend of May 18, 2013

Three Team Parlay: 100 units pays a profit of 350 units.

          1. Manchester United to win 1.862
          2. Bayern Munich to win at 1.629
          3. Arsenal to win at 1.541

Manchester United is playing its final match under Sir Alex Ferguson, and even a difficult trip away to West Bromwich Albion does not overshadow United’s desire to send out the boss of all bosses out on top. The computer think there’s value on United until 1.84, so this is hardly an open and shut result, but West Brom isn’t playing for anything. United is.

Bayern Munich is 48.5 percent to win at Monchengladback. Bayern has already set the points record, and every victory adds to their record setting season. Gladbach is not playing for much of anything. There is a small chance that they qualify for the final Europa League spot, but that would require beating Bayern and Frankfurt losing big. That’s just not happening.

Arsenal needs one final victory to seal a Top 4 finish. If Spurs beat Sunderland at White Hart Lane—which they should do easily—the Gunners would be out with a loss or draw at St. James Park. Newcastle, however, is not playing for anything, and Alan Pardew has already publicly stated he could care less about the result against Arsenal. With Olivier Giroud back available and Lucas Podolski firing, Arsenal have enough fire power to collect three points

NHL playoff action: What bettors need to know

Los Angeles Kings at San Jose Sharks (-129, 4.5)

                          Los Angeles leads series 2-0.

Entering their Western Conference second-round series against their Pacific Division rivals, the sixth-seeded San Jose Sharks were one of the most dangerous teams on the power play this postseason. Heading into Game 3 at HP Pavilion on Saturday, the fifth-seeded Los Angeles Kings are the ones clicking with the man advantage. San Jose finds itself in a must-win situation thanks to Los Angeles' power play, which converted three times on six opportunities - including twice in a 22-second span late in the third period - en route to a 4-3 home triumph on Thursday that gave the reigning Stanley Cup champions a 2-0 series lead.

The Sharks were 7-for-24 on the power play during their four-game sweep of the Northwest Division champion Vancouver Canucks in the first round. They have been unable to cash in against the Kings, going 0-for-7 over the first two games. Defenseman Drew Doughty gave Los Angeles a 2-0 lead at 4:10 of the second period with a man-advantage tally and captain Dustin Brown forged a 3-3 tie during a 5-on-3 with 1:43 remaining in the third. Trevor Lewis completed the improbable comeback shortly after the ensuing faceoff with San Jose still down a skater.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN, RDS

ABOUT THE KINGS: Brown believes having a large chunk of players from last season's championship team on the roster already has paid dividends this postseason. "Experience is one thing. It's another thing to have all that experience together as a group of guys because that goes a long way when you get yourself into a hole," Brown told the Los Angeles Times after Game 2. "We didn't play a great game, but we found a way to win." The Kings also were in a hole when they lost the first two games of their first-round series against the St. Louis Blues. All that experienced group of players has done is win six consecutive contests since. Jarret Stoll did not play on Thursday after receiving a hit to the head from Raffi Torres in the series opener. While not a marquee name, Stoll has been a key part to Los Angeles' success. "He may not be a top-two-line guy for us, but he's got a lot of fingerprints all over the game every time we have one," defenseman Rob Scuderi told the Times. The Kings have won 12 consecutive home games.

ABOUT THE SHARKS: Game 1 may have been the last contest played by Raffi Torres in a San Jose uniform. An unrestricted free agent after the season, the left wing was suspended for the remainder of the series as a result of his head shot on Stoll. Torres has been banned several times during his career, most notably last postseason when he received a 25-game suspension - which later was reduced to 21 games - for a hit to the head of Chicago's Marian Hossa. Captain Joe Thornton didn't think Torres' hit on Stoll was dirty at all. "We were kind of shocked to hear that he has to fly to New York for the hearing," Thornton told the San Jose Mercury News on Thursday. "We didn't see anything wrong on the play." Coach Todd McLellan believes his was the better team in Game 2, save for the 22-second span late in the third period. "When you get three (goals), you'd better beat this team," McLellan said. "We've got to get back to San Jose and feel good about what we did for 59 minutes. ... There's a lot of good to take out of that game. I liked a lot. I disliked the fact that we lost."

                          TRENDS:

                          * Home team is 11-1 in the last 12 meetings.
                          * Over is 5-1-3 in the last nine meetings.
                          * Kings are 4-1 in the last five meetings.
                          * Kings are 10-25 in the last 35 meetings in San Jose.

                          OVERTIME:

                          1. Kings C Anze Kopitar left Game 2 in the opening minute of the third period after being hit in the left side of his face with a puck but returned midway through the session.

                          2. With Torres suspended, LW Tim Kennedy was inserted into San Jose's lineup. As a result, C Scott Gomez was moved up to the third line and took advantage of the promotion by recording two assists.

                          3. Sharks C Patrick Marleau has scored a goal in five of his team's six playoff games.

Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks (-210, 5)

                          Chicago leads series 1-0.

The seventh-seeded Detroit Red Wings hung tough with the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks for 48 minutes in the opener of their Western Conference second-round series before the Presidents' Trophy winners turned on the afterburners and pulled away. Detroit looks to put in a full 60-minute effort Saturday afternoon, when the Original Six rivals meet at the United Center for Game 2. Damien Brunner scored 1:54 after former Red Wing Marian Hossa converted a power-play opportunity midway through the first period, and the Central Division foes remained even until defenseman Johnny Oduya put Chicago ahead for good at 8:02 of the third.

Marcus Kruger doubled the lead 3:21 later, and Patrick Sharp scored into an empty net in the final minute to seal the Blackhawks' fourth win in as many home playoff games. Sharp added a pair of assists as Chicago outshot Detroit 36-14 over the final two periods after the Red Wings had a 7-6 edge in the opening session. The Red Wings have lost eight consecutive meetings with the Blackhawks, including five in 2013 in which they've scored a total of six goals.

TV: 1 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, RDS

ABOUT THE RED WINGS: Left wing Drew Miller has been medically cleared to return to action after missing four weeks with a broken finger on his right hand. As of Friday, coach Mike Babcock had not decided whether or not he will insert the 29-year-old into the lineup. "If Drew Miller's in a position to help our team, he'll play," Babcock said. If Miller plays Saturday, he'll likely take the spot of either Todd Bertuzzi or Patrick Eaves. Defenseman Danny DeKeyser participated in practice in a limited capacity on Friday but is not close to returning from the broken thumb he suffered in Game 2 of the first-round series against Anaheim. DeKeyser plans to be cautious despite wanting to get back on the ice. "I'll try to do what I can without risking further injury," he told the Detroit Free Press. "I want to come back as soon as I can, but I don't want to hurt it any more."

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS: Michal Handzus and defenseman Duncan Keith did not participate in practice on Friday, but coach Joel Quenneville said both players are fine. Handzus has not taken part in any of Chicago's last three workouts but won seven of his 11 faceoffs in Game 1. Viktor Stalberg was back in his white jersey during Friday's practice after being a healthy scratch for the series opener. But the right wing skated on a line with the Blackhawks' other healthy scratches, meaning he's likely to sit out Game 2. "It's frustrating, obviously," Stalberg told the Chicago Tribune. "Can't really make it too much about yourself, it's about winning games right now." Quenneville was named as a finalist for the Jack Adams Award, joining Anaheim's Bruce Boudreau and Ottawa's Paul MacLean. Chicago's coach, however, would rather the accolades for the team's success go to the players. "We're very happy with where we're at as a coaching staff, but all the credit is for the players and what they've accomplished this year," said Quenneville, who won the award in 2000 while with St. Louis.

                          TRENDS:

                          * Red Wings are 3-13 in their last 16 games playing on 2 days rest.
                          * Blackhawks are 5-1 in their last 6 Conference Semifinals games.
                          * Under is 6-2-3 in Blackhawks last 11 overall.
                          * Red Wings are 3-13 in the last 16 meetings.

                          OVERTIME:

                          1. The Red Wings have been outscored 15-5 in the third period this postseason.

                          2. Sharp is tied with Pittsburgh teammates Pascal Dupuis and captain Sidney Crosby for the league lead with six goals.

                          3. Chicago G Corey Crawford is atop the NHL in both goals-against average (1.27) and save percentage (.950).

                                NBA

                                Saturday, May 18

Knicks beat Boston in 1st round, which was playing without PG Rondo, now Indiana PG Hill has concussion, may not play here. Pacers' starting guards hit dismal 4-16 in Game 5 loss without Hill. Anthony is 25-67 (37.3%) in three Indy win in series, 25-54 in two Knick wins. JR Smith is 26-85 in five losses vs Pacers, 19-47 in four New York Ws- in seven games since a suspension in Boston series, Smith is shooting 28.2% from floor. 11 of last 15 Knick games stayed under the total; 12 of last 19 Indy games went over (0 of last 3). Immense pressure on Indiana to end series on home court and avoid going back to Manhattan for a decisive Game 7.
