Boston (Doubront) (-120) at Kansas City (Guthrie) 7:10 ET
3% Kansas City (Guthrie) (+110)
The 9-6 KC victory last night vs. Boston increased the Royals record to 15-2 recently while dropping Boston to 17-36 on the road vs. winning teams. We will ride those 2 numbers in a game featuring a pair of hot starters. Doubront has allowed 3 or less runs in 15 consecutive starts and has a 2.02 ERA his last 9. Kansas City has won 8/10 Guthrie home starts. Guthrie enters tonight as a hot starter with a 1.29 ERA in his last 3 outings. Must repeat the bullpen numbers which played out last night once again when the Royals stormed back after trailing 6-3. In the last 8 weeks, KC holds a 158-108 bullpen index advantage edge, a huge indicator of success in MLB this season.
Pittsburgh (Burnett) (-135) at Colorado (Nicasio) 8:10 ET
3% Pittsburgh (Burnett) (-135)
Burnett has been a victim of poor run support all season. That is indicated by his 5-7 record but 2.73 ERA. His fate has been even worse on the road where the Pirates have won just 2 of his 9 starts with a 3.15 ERA. Yet Burnett continues to pitch lights out. In his most recent 7 starts, Burnett has allowed 2 or less runs with a 1.89 ERA. That includes a 5-1 victory vs. Colorado in his most recent outing with 9 Ks. After being embarrassed 10-1 last night in the series opener, look for a bounce back by the Bucs, the team with the best record in MLB. It should come rather easily vs. Nicasio who has a 5.05 ERA for the year and in his last 2 outings, has allowed 12 runs on 16 hits in 8 1/3 IP.
Detroit (Sanchez) (-160, -1 ½ runs -105) at NY Yankees (Hughes) 1:05 ET
3% Detroit (Sanchez) (-160, -1 ½ runs -105)
The Tigers battle back to tie the game at 3 in the 9th last night with a 2 run homer by Cabrera off Rivera yet Detroit fell 4-3 in the 10th snapping the 12 game win streak. Look for the bounce back tonight against an NYY team who, despite last night’s win, enters on negative runs of 27-38 and 7-14. The pitching mismatch is clearly in our favor. From this mound, Hughes has a 6.02 ERA with NYY winning just 3 of his 11 starts. In his last 5 outings, Hughes is 0-3 with a 6.08 ERA including allowing 10 runs and 20 base runners in 6 2/3 IP of his last 2 starts. Recently, Hughes is 0-3 against Detroit with a 6.35 ERA. Far prefer the consistent slants of Sanchez who, for the season, has a 2.58 ERA and 131/37 WHIP. Detroit to bounce back. Run line players take note: 56/68 Detroit wins including 26 of 31 road wins have been by 2 or more runs. Consider part of your wager on the run line.
Tampa Bay (Hernandez) at LA Dodgers (Greinke) (-145) 4:05 ET Fox TV
4% LA Dodgers (Greinke) (-145)
The Dodgers trailed 6-0 last night before rallying for a 7-6 victory. That win extended their recent run to 35-8 and 18-3. Those are the kinds of wins the Rays were getting in their recent run of 48-24 including 24-5. Since that time, however, Tampa Bay has gone 4-6 and enters tonight on a 3 game losing streak. It looked like Hernandez may be joining the excellence that was the Tampa Bay rotation when he pitched a rare complete game victory. But Hernandez followed that with his most recent outing in which he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 4 2/3 IP. That outing was far more consistent with his YTD numbers of 6-11 and 4.75 ERA. Those decline when pitching on the road as Tampa Bay has won just 2/9 Hernandez road starts in which he has a 5.71 ERA. Greinke is again pitching Lights Out from a home mound. The Dodgers have won 8/9 Greinke home starts in which he has a 2.56 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. Greinke is in great current form as in his last 9 outings, coinciding with the Dodgers hot streak, he has gone 6-1 with a 2.74 ERA.
