                        Red Sox at Tigers
                        What bettors need to know
                        Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers (N/A)
                        Series tied 2-2.
                        The pitchers who set the tone for this American League Championship Series oppose each other again Thursday night when Anibal Sanchez takes the mound for host Detroit against Jon Lester of Boston in Game 5. Sanchez struck out 12 in six no-hit innings in the opener and Lester also was strong as the Tigers squeaked out a 1-0 victory. Detroit center fielder Austin Jackson reached base four times as the Tigers evened the series with a 7-3 victory Wednesday.
                        Detroit’s Jhonny Peralta singled in the lone run against Lester in the opener, a contest in which Sanchez walked six and was pulled after 116 pitches. Jackson’s standout Game 4 performance in which he had two hits, two walks and two RBIs came after he was dropped to eighth in the lineup due to a deep postseason slump (3-for-33, 18 strikeouts). Boston slugger David Ortiz was hitless in five at-bats in Game 4 to drop to 1-for-15 in the series – his only hit being the game-tying grand slam in Game 2. The Red Sox had 12 hits to match their total over the first three games but went 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
                        TV: 8:07 p.m. ET, Fox
                        WEATHER:
                        Temperatures in the low 50s with an 82 percent chance of rain and winds blowing WSW at 11 mph.
                        PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Jon Lester (0-1, 1.42 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Anibal Sanchez (1-0, 0.00)
                        Lester allowed one run and six hits in 6 1/3 innings in Game 1 and has given up just three runs in 14 postseason innings this month. The opener marked his first loss since Aug. 29 as he finished the regular season by allowing two or fewer earned runs in seven of his last 10 starts and has added two such performances in the postseason. That stretch included a Sept. 3 start when Lester struck out nine and allowed one run in seven innings to beat the Tigers.
                        Sanchez joined Walter Johnson (12 innings in 1924 World Series) as the only pitchers to strike out 12 and walk six in the same playoff game. The stellar outing represented a sharp turnaround from his start against Oakland in the AL Division Series when he allowed six runs (five earned) and eight hits – including three homers – in 4 1/3 innings. Sanchez has struck out 10 or more batters six times this season.
                        TRENDS:
                        * Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Detroit.
                        * Over is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings.
                        * Red Sox are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in Detroit.
                        UMP TRENDS – Dale Scott:

                        * Red Sox are 1-5 in their last six games with Scott behind home plate.
                        * Home team is 5-1 in Scott’s last six games behind home plate vs. Detroit.
                        WALK-OFFS:
                        1. Red Sox CF Jacoby Ellsbury went 4-for-5 with an RBI in Game 4 after going 1-for-10 over the first three games.
                        2. Tigers RF Torii Hunter batted leadoff for the first time since 1999 and had a crucial two-run double in Detroit’s five-run, second-inning uprising.
                        3. Boston batters have fanned 10 times or more in all four games and 53 overall in the series.

                            Pro Football Play of the Day October 17, 2013 6:45 AM by GT Staff

                            Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals at 5:25 p.m. PST

                            The Seahawks have played three games on the road winning two and losing one but the two games they won they should have lost. Carolina fumbled inside the ten yard line late in the game and they ended up losing 12-7 and the Texans had the game won and just gave it away with less then two minutes to go and than lose it in overtime. This will be just the third home game for Arizona, we look for them to have a huge defensive effort and the cover if not the straight up win.

                            304 Arizona Cardinals +6

                              NCAA Football

                              306 North Carolina +9½: The Tar Heels from Chapel Hill are much better than their 1-4 record indicates, htey played a tough game against South Carolina on the road and another at Georgia Tech and two weeks ago they gave Virginia Tech all they could handle once again on the road. They have an extra week off to get ready for this must win game and the dog in this series has gone 7-1-1.

                              Baseball American League Playoffs

                              920 Detroit Tigers (NL): The Tiger bats woke up in the second inning yesterday as the put five runs across the plate and that was enough to get the need win to tie this series up at 2-2, they would love nothing better than to head to Boston with a 3-2 advantage.

                                4.5-Star ARIZONA +6.5 over Seattle - The Cardinals' allowed the most points they have allowed all season last week, losing 32-20 to the 49ers. However, the defense played well. It was four turnovers that did the damage. Arizona's D held the 49ers to 1-of-4 in the red zone and an impressive 1-3 from a first-and-goal. This activates them for a nice NFL system.
                                Any 500+ NFL team is 19-1 ATS since the start of the 2006 NFL season as a dog when they are off a road game last week vs a conference foe in which they stopped their opponent on at least three red zone attempts and at least one goal-to-go attempt - as long as they did not lose the game by more than two TDs. The SDQL text is:

                                po:RZF>2 and po:GTGF>0 and D and p:A and WP>=50 and p:margin>-14 and C and NB and season>=2006

                                Larry Fitzgerald had a 75-yard TD pass last week against the 49ers and the Cardinals have NEVER failed to cover in this spot.

                                Arizona is a perfect 10-0 in franchise history at home after a road game in which Larry Fitzgerald had a reception that went for 40-plus yards. The SDQL text is:

                                team=Cardinals and H and p:A and Cardinals:Larry Fitzgerald:longest reception>=40

                                In addition, Arizona has rebounded well from a game in which they suffered a bad turnover margin. The Cards are 8-0 ATS (+12.25 ppg) as a dog when they are off a loss in which they suffered a turnover margin of at least plus-two. The SDQL text is:

                                team=Cardinals and D and p:L and 2<=p:TOM and NB and season>=2009

                                The Seahawks are a team that grinds out first downs and controls the clock. The Cardinals have done very well against similar teams. Since the start of the 2009 season Arizona is a perfect 8-0 ATS as a home dog vs a team that has averaged at least 32 minutes of possession time and at least four punts per game season-to-date. The SDQL text is:

                                team=Cardinals and HD and oA(TOP)>32*60 and oA(punts)>=4 and date>=20080201

                                Note that the Cardinals are 8-0 straight up in this spot and they have covered by an average of 15.9 points per game. Wow.

                                They cashed for us in this spot two weeks ago when they beat the Panthers 22-6 as a small home dog.

                                The Seahawks have been fantastic against the number recently. Since last December, they are 10-3 ATS, but 0-2 ATS their last two. The linesmakers have had to overcompensate to get two-way action and this line is still inflated.

                                Last week, at home against the Titans, the Seahawks trailed 10-7 at the half before winning 20-13 laying 13 points. Next week, the Seahawks visit the Rams on Monday Night Football. This has not been a good spot for NFL teams. Since the start of the 2008 season, road teams that are over 500 on the season that visit a divisional opponent on Monday Night next week are 0-9 ATS, losing EVERY game straight up. The SDQL text is:

                                A and n:day=Monday and n:A and n:NB and nIV and wins-losses>0 and season>=2008

                                The Cardinals and the points have to be the right side here.
