Analysis: At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Detroit Red Wings over the Winnipeg Jets. It's been a very streaky season for the Red Wings so far. Beginning on October 12, the Wings won four straight against the Flyers, Bruins, Blue Jackets, and Avalanche. But then just as quickly, Detroit lost their next four against the Coyotes, Sharks, Senators and Rangers. And now, the Red Wings are back on the winning track, having won three straight coming into tonight. Through all of this, Detroit has somewhat strangely been more dangerous on the road than at home. Overall, the Wings are 9-6 (with two of those losses in overtime), but they are just 3-4 at home and 6-2 away, which is certainly unusual for this team that is used to dominating its opponents at Joe Louis Arena. That anomaly could help Detroit on the road tonight, especially against the Jets who have lost six of their last seven. Winnipeg has also lost six of its nine games at home and the Red Wings are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings. Take Detroit.

The knee-jerk reaction might be to play on the ‘over’ here, but my database suggests that is likely the wrong move. Indeed, in the regular season, since 1980, in games where both teams are coming off an offensive performance where they scored more than 38 points, the ‘under’ has cashed 71% of the time.
