NCAAB betting: Iowa coach McCaffery suspended for Thursday's game

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery didn’t have a betting ticket on his team’s game at Wisconsin on Sunday. That didn’t stop him from costing his school $10,000 in the wake of a 75-71 loss to the fourth-ranked Badgers.

McCaffery went haywire with about 12 minutes left in the game, bumping the referee in the process of getting two technical fouls and getting ejected.

On Tuesday, the Big Ten hit the coach with a one-game suspension and the school with the fine. McCaffery will miss the No. 20 Hawkeyes’ game at Northwestern on Thursday.

Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery lost his cool and consequently will not be coaching in this game as he literally lost it at Wisconsin and was furious with the referees. So, as his punishment, he is suspended from coaching in this game which is exactly why this team will be focused today as their head coach will not be on the bench and they will look to show him support with a positive outcome today. After beating Nebraska at home by 10, this team lost to Wisconsin in a tight contest on the road and now sit at 1-1 in conference play and this is an important game for them. Iowa is a top 20 power ranking team and they are one of the most balanced in the country as they are top 20 both offensively and defensively. This is a team that lost to Villanova by 3 points in extra time on neutral footing 86-83, they beat a good Xavier team who is top 30 team in overtime and has done well coming off losses. After their loss to rival Iowa State on the road by a possession, they won their next contest by 25 and after losing to Villanova earlier this year this team turned around and beat a very good Notre Dame team. Chris Collins team just lost by 23 points to Michigan on the road and Michigan is a top 25 power ranking team and you have Iowa an even better team than that. This is a team that lost by 21 to NC State on the road as well who is a top 100 team and what sets up here is a Iowa team that is coming off a loss to Wisconsin, their coach is not on the bench so they will want to rally around him by winning this contest with the assistant coaches and you have a Northwestern team that is not as potent on offense and that has lost to similar opponents by about 21 points. The assistant coaches will want to put their best foot forward as well so look to see Iowa come out focused and do well today as this game is likely a cover for Iowa as we have this game at a 21 point differential.

I was hoping this line would be placed at 194-197 and we got it at 196.5 so that is a positive for us. The steady consensus and tracking of these teams is that they have played to the Under in New York and they have played to the Over in Miami with the Knicks being active underdogs. Much is the same here as the Knicks are at home and are trying their best to salvage their season which is certainly possible in the (L)Eastern conference. Note, the Oddsmakers have always been very sharp with these lines and out of the last 10 contests, the last 6 of 10 have gone under and in their most recent contest New York beat this team 102-90 back on April sending this game over 191 in Miami. And, these two teams have not played back to back overs in their last 10 games and they come off an over. With the Heat shoring up their defense of late giving up just 88 points to New Orleans and not starting that game off strong, look for them to start off this contest strong today against the Knicks. They have revenge, this is a good public fade as there is limited number of games on the board today as most of the public will take the over on this marquee game. The Knicks have won 3 of their last 4 contests and are getting a bit more confidence and always show up to play the Heat as well. The Under is 4-1 for the Heat when they face a team with a straight up losing record and the Under is 5-2 for the Knicks following a win as well as the Under being 7-0 in the last 7 meetings in New York to boot.
