OC Dooley:“2 UNIT” COLLEGE BASKETBALL LINETRACKER (Boston College +8 at home versus Syracuse in an approximate 9:10 eastern tipoff on ESPNU cable): At most offshore locations undefeated Syracuse (16-0) opened as a double-digit road favorite, so the dip in the price tag comes as a bit of a shock especially since they are facing a below .500 opponent. Currently the Boston College offense is ranked down at the #11 spot among Atlantic Coast Conference schools and the defense has been burnt by giving up a hefty average of 75 points per outing. The Golden Eagles are also on a long term 1-17 skid when up against opposition ranked in the national Top-25 and the Orange check in this evening with a number-two ranking. On the of the reasons for the dip in tonight’s price tag is that Boston College has had the knack of keeping games CLOSE as they have four different setbacks this year that have come by margins of “4 or less” points. One of those close-shaves came against the only nationally-ranked opponent Boston College has faced this campaign as they took then #18-ranked Connecticut right down to the wire in a game that was decided by a TWO POINT margin. Foe those who have followed the 16-0 start of Syracuse they have tended to struggle against inferior competition including St. Francis College as that night the superstar tandem of C.J. Fair and Tyler Ennis suffered from a general lack of interest. Last time on the floor Syracuse in their first-ever clash versus North Carolina as a conference foe ended up winning an extremely low scoring 57-45 contest where the Orange had a season-low offensive performance hitting just 35% from the field. My research indicates that in the past three years following a very low scoring game where a combined “115 or less” combined points were scored, Syracuse has had major problems converting (3-11 ATS/ROAD) where it counts
