    WINNING POINTS

    PRO BASKETBALL

*Orlando over Los Angeles Lakers by 3
This marks the Lakers' sixth of seven consecutive road contests. The Lakers were 4-5
ATS when playing in the second of back-to-back games. The Magic are hard to get
behind with Nikola Vucevic (check status) out of the lineup.
    ORLANDO 105-102.

    Toronto over *Philadelphia by 5
Michael Carter-Williams is on pace to become the only rookie besides Magic Johnson
to average 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds a game. However, the 76ers are
6-12 ATS at home, commit the most turnovers of any team and rank last in defense.
    TORONTO 109-104.

    ***BEST BET
*Atlanta over San Antonio by 4
The Spurs are caught in a sandwich spot of marquee matchups having just hosted the
Thunder and playing at Miami in their next game. The Hawks don't have San
Antonio's stars, but have proven dangerous in Atlanta going 13-6 ATS through this
    past Sunday.
    ATLANTA 97-93.

    *Cleveland over Milwaukee by 9
Cleveland's scoring has been way up since acquiring Luol Deng. The Bucks took the
Cavaliers to overtime when they last visited on Dec. 20 losing 114-111. But are 3-5
ATS away from home since then through last Sunday suffering blowout losses to the
Suns, Thunder and Raptors during this span.
    CLEVELAND 109-100.

    Dallas over *Brooklyn by 3
Dallas is playing in its third of three consecutive road games. The Mavericks, though,
opened their current road trip 38-15 ATS in their past 53 away matchups. The Nets
ranked last in 3-point defense and have been without their best player, Deron
    Williams (check status).
    DALLAS 106-103.

Oklahoma City over *Boston by 6
The Celts were buried by Oklahoma City, 119-96, less than three weeks ago. But the
Thunder were 6-6 ATS in their first 12 games since Russell Westbrook was injured
and have only two road covers during this span.
    OKLAHOMA CITY 107-101.

    ***BEST BET
Charlotte at *New York by 7
Charlotte rolled past the Knicks, 108-98, when the Bobcats hosted New York 10 days
ago ending New York's five-game winning streak. The Knicks couldn't stop Al
Jefferson, who scored a season-high 35 points, despite having Tyson Chandler back in
the lineup. It was the fifth time in the last six meetings Charlotte has covered against
the Knicks. The Bobcats are a better team with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist back in the
rotation, although they could be missing Kemba Walker (check status).
    CHARLOTTE 99-92.

*Detroit over New Orleans by 6
New Orleans was averaging eight fewer points per game since Ryan Anderson was lost
with a herniated disc. Brandon Jennings can go to town with Jrue Holiday out, too.
The Pelicans were 7-12-1 ATS in its first 20 road games.
    DETROIT 108-102.

    ***BEST BET
    Memphis over *Houston by 6
After initially struggling following Marc Gasol's injury, the Grizzlies have turned
things around. Mike Conley is having a career season, Zach Randolph still is a double-
double machine and Memphis entered the mid-point of the month ranked sixth
defensively. The Grizzlies were 7-2 ATS through last Sunday and have been idle since
    Monday.
    MEMPHIS 102-96.

*Chicago over Los Angeles Clippers by 1
The Clips crushed the Bulls, 121-82, back in November when Chicago was struggling.
Now the Bulls are playing better defense and will be catching LA playing in
their fifth road game in eight days and minus Chris Paul.
    CHICAGO 97-96.

    *Phoenix over Washington by 2
The Suns have been struggling without Eric Bledsoe, who ranked second on the team
in scoring and assists . The Wizards haven't been on the road in 11 days. They have
covered eight of their last 10 away matchups.
    PHOENIX 104-102.

    Indiana over *Sacramento by 7
The teams met just 10 days ago in Indiana where the Pacers halted the Kings' threegame winning streak with a 116-92 victory. This is Sacramento's first game back from a six-game, nine-day road trip that finished Wednesday night.
    INDIANA 100-93.

*Golden State over Minnesota by 7
While Minnesota ranked 29th in defensive field goal percentage, the Warriors have
tightened their defense ranking in the top 10 in fewest points per game and defensive
field goal percentage. The Warriors were 8-4 ATS when hosting a foe with a losing
    road mark.
    GOLDEN STATE 119-112.

                      NCAAB

                      Friday, January 24

                      Four NCAAB mid-major moneymakers

Mid-major money. Small conference cash. Every season in college basketball there are small schools that provide value ATS that are overlooked to bettors. Whether it be a lack of television coverage, or playing in a small conference with a lack of marquee names, these teams might not be thought of as quality bets despite churning cover after cover.

Today we look at four schools that have been killing it ATS this season and are worth a look for those interested in diversifying what conferences they bet on.

Wichita State (Missouri Valley Conference, 12-3-1 ATS)

Wichita State is actually one of the most consistent mid-majors in terms of success at the NCAA tournament and are currently an undefeated 19-0. The Shockers are also a very impressive 12-3-1 ATS. Led by Cleanthony Early (15.5 PPG) and a balanced group of returning players, the Shockers could very well finish the regular season undefeated. If spreads get inflated and teams start getting more and more motivated to end their undefeated streak we could see more ATS losses which is a concern. For now, the Shockers are the giants of the mid-majors on the court and against the spread.

New Mexico State (WAC, 7-2 ATS)

New Mexico State, most known for having 7'5" center Sim Bhullar and Johannesburg-born Tshilidzi Nephawe down low, have no problems using their size to dominate opponents in the WAC. With their only ATS loss in their last ten meetings being against the Arizona Wildcats, it is no secret that the Aggies' size creates value when they are facing smaller opponents. With Nephawe averaging 7.4 rebounds and Bhullar averaging 3.4 blocks per game, the Aggies are simply dominant in the post most nights. Add in Daniel Mullings 16.2 PPG and the Aggies have more than enough on the perimeter to support the interior defense and rebounding of their Twin Towers.

Air Force (Mountain West, 9-3 ATS)

Air Force has been a top underdog in the Mountain West in the opening month of conference play, covering four-straight spreads of 7.5 or more recently. Air Force has also covered while favored, covering as 9-point favorites against San Jose State. While the team is a pretty average 9-8 SU and is fairly pedestrian when it comes to statistics, they appear to stay in games and have three players averaging points in the double digits including scoring leader Tre Coggins who is averaging a steady 17.5 PPG. That "Big Three" is keeping them in games, and while handicappers keep them as underdogs there is value.

                      UTEP (C-USA, 10-3 ATS)

A betting scandal hasn't slowed down the Miners from being solid both in the C-USA and ATS. After stumbling in a loss to Charlotte and failing to cover against Western Illinois in the fallout of the scandal, UTEP has won and covered four of the last five. Holding teams to a 37.8 percent from the field and 28.7 percent shooting behind the arc, the Miners' defense has kept them in the C-USA race and as the best ATS team in the conference.

Game: Memphis at Houston (8:00 PM Eastern)
                        Pick: Memphis +6 (-105) at 5Dimes

The Memphis Grizzlies have put their backs to the wall with a horrible start, but they have finally started to play more like the team we saw late last season. Memphis has used a 5-1 run to get to .500, and they have actually played better on the road, than at home where they are 9-7 this season. They have double-revenge against Houston, who they lost to by 7 and 8 points this season, but are playing at a much higher level right now, and are 5-0 ATS in their last five off a loss. This is the first of a home-and-home vs. Houston, and the Rockets have San Antonio after that, so they may find themselves complacent here. Take the points on Memphis.
