    Minnesota +7½ -108 over PORTLAND

Still don't believe the Blazers are contenders? They've beaten every team in the West currently projected to make the playoffs and have knocked off the Spurs and Thunder twice. Portland’s five-game winning streak was recently snapped but it was their third winning streak of at least five games halfway through the season. However, the Blazers are not in the best of spots here. Portland returned home to face Denver on Thursday night after a four game trip through San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and Oklahoma City. They were pushed hard on Thursday in a five-point victory and if teams aren’t somewhat flat in the first game back from a trip, they’re often flat in the second game back. Portland, behind a slew of sharpshooters, boasts the best offense, but the defense is below average and that could be a problem against the Timberwolves.

Minnesota is not a team you want to spot 7½-points to. For one, they’re warming up with three wins in a row, capped off by a road victory at Golden State last night. Secondly, the T-Wolves are more than capable of defeating anyone and what’s so fascinating about this team is that they’ve had 10 games this season in which they’ve led by at least 30 points. Eight of the last nine teams that have accomplished that in one season have all gone onto the NBA Finals. That’s a testament to just how dangerous these Timberwolves are. Back on December 18 in Minnesota, the T-Wolves defeated the Blazers by 11 points. The blueprint for defeating Portland is in place and although this game is in Portland, we don’t anticipate an 18-point turnaround in the Blazers favor.

Sabres at Blue Jackets: What bettors need to know

Buffalo Sabres at Columbus Blue Jackets (-200, 5.5)

The surging Columbus Blue Jackets look to extend their franchise-best winning streak to nine games on Saturday, when they host the slumping Buffalo Sabres. Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 26 shots against his former team as the Blue Jackets celebrated the 1,000th game in franchise history with a 5-2 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner, Bobrovsky also was dominant by stopping all three shootout attempts in last weekend's 4-3 triumph over Buffalo.

While Columbus has been red-hot, Buffalo's play has mimicked the ice-cold weather. The Sabres suffered four consecutive 4-3 setbacks - including two via shootout - before falling for a fifth time as they dropped a 5-3 decision to Carolina on Thursday. "We're finding ways to lose hockey games versus playing ways to win hockey games," Sabres interim coach Ted Nolan said.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG (Buffalo), FSN Ohio (Columbus)

ABOUT THE SABRES (13-29-7): Tyler Ennis has scored three goals and set up four others during his career-best six-game point streak - and notched a pair of assists against the Blue Jackets last Saturday. Ennis was absent from Friday's practice with what Nolan deemed a "maintenance day" but is expected to face Columbus. Cody Hodgson joined Ennis by scoring against the Hurricanes and has recorded three goals and three assists in six games since returning from an upper-body injury.

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (26-20-4): Brandon Dubinsky has collected a goal and an assist in two of his last three contests overall and has scored in both meetings with Buffalo this season. Linemate Matt Calvert also has fared well, scoring the go-ahead goal in the second period before setting up Dubinsky for the eventual game-winner versus the Flyers. Bobrovsky has been tabbed the starter Saturday as he has defeated Buffalo twice this season and is 4-1-1 against the Sabres over his career.

        TRENDS:
        * Blue Jackets are 8-0 in their last eight overall.
        * Over is 5-0 in Sabres last five overall.
        * Over is 4-0-1 in the last five meetings.
        * Sabres are 3-7 in the last 10 meetings.

        OVERTIME:
        1. Former Blue Jacket enforcer Zenon Konopka notched an assist on Thursday for his first point in seven games with the Sabres.

        2. Buffalo G Ryan Miller has dropped four of six (2-3-1) meetings with Columbus - including both this season.

        3. Unrestricted free agent Vinny Prospal retired on Friday, one year removed from finishing as the Blue Jackets' top point scorer with 12 goals and 18 assists.

Timberwolves at Trail Blazers: What bettors need to know

Minnesota Timberwolves at Portland Trail Blazers (-7.5, 219.5)

The Minnesota Timberwolves are on a roll and are once again on the verge of a winning record. The Timberwolves will attempt to move over .500 for the first time since Nov. 23 when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday. Minnesota has lost its last eight chances to move above the even point but comes in with a three-game winning streak and knocked off the Golden State Warriors 121-120 on Friday.

The Trail Blazers can score with the Timberwolves and have won four straight at home after a 110-105 triumph over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. LaMarcus Aldridge, who was passed over in the fan vote for a starting spot in the All-Star Game by - amongst others - Minnesota’s Kevin Love, went for a career-high 44 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in that win on the night the All-Star vote was announced. “What can you say, man?” Blazers guard Wesley Matthews questioned reporters about Aldridge. “He’s an MVP candidate. Best power forward in the game, I’ve been saying that for two years now.”

TV: 10 p.m. ET, NBATV, CSN Northwest (Portland)

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (21-21): Love will give Aldridge a good battle in the race for that mantle of best power forward in the game and showed off his all-around skills with 26 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists on Friday, including the pass that set up Kevin Martin’s go-ahead basket in the final seconds. Minnesota took two in a row from the Utah Jazz with some strong work on the defensive end but made a bigger statement by hanging with a playoff team like the Warriors and pulling out its first victory in a game decided by four or fewer points. Love is getting plenty of help from Nikola Pekovic, who put up 22 points and 14 rebounds on Friday.

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (32-11): Aldridge scored Portland’s final 15 points on Thursday and has scored 25 or more in six straight to help the team through a bit of a rough defensive stretch. The Blazers have allowed at least 105 points in each of their last four games but drew praise from their coach for their effort on that end late in the win over the Nuggets. “I don’t know if we were playing angry,” coach Terry Stotts said. “I thought we were playing hard, we were competing. We were determined. I don’t know if ‘angry’ is the right word but we played defensively with some emotion. I know it’s in us. We’re capable of doing those things.”

            TRENDS:
            * Over is 5-0-1 in the last six meetings in Portland.
            * Timberwolves are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Portland.
            * Timberwolves are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games.
            * Under is 4-1 in Trail Blazers last five home games.

            BUZZER BEATERS:
            1. Aldridge is the only Portland player ever to post seven straight games of at least 20 points and 12 rebounds, surpassing the record of six shared by Bill Walton and Sidney Wicks.

            2. Love went for 29 points and 15 rebounds while Aldridge totaled 15 points and 14 boards as Minnesota took a 120-109 home decision from the Blazers on Dec. 18.

            3. Portland G Damian Lillard is 0-for-9 from 3-point range over the last two games.
