SEC Tournament betting cheat sheet: Round 4

Tennessee Volunteers vs. Florida Gators (-6)

Tennessee, still regarded as an NCAA Tournament bubble team in some projections, defeated No. 13 seed South Carolina, 59-44, in its quarterfinal contest. The Volunteers bring a five-game winning streak into the contest and haven't trailed in their last 200 minutes of game time action.

The regular-season champion Gators have won a school-record 24 straight games including a 72-49 victory over Missouri in Friday's quarterfinals. The Gators have won their last four games by an average of 21 points.

    TRENDS:

*Volunteers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. SEC
*Gators are 4-1 ATS in last 5 games following an ATS win
*Under is 43-19-1 in Volunteers last 63 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
*Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings

ACC Tournament betting cheat sheet: Round 4

Virginia Cavaliers vs. Pittsburgh Panthers (+3.5)

The Cavaliers showed why they lead the nation in scoring defense and won the league’s regular-season title, getting a workmanlike 64-51 victory over Florida State on Friday. It took the Cavaliers a little time to get going against Florida State, but their tireless defense forced 15 turnovers overall and allowed only 38.5 percent shooting in the second half.

Virginia will be tested by the Panthers, who have averaged 82 points in its first two ACC tournament games. The Panthers must correct issues that led to almost blowing a 20-point lead against North Carolina and will look for leading scorer Lamar Patterson to play more like his 24-point effort in the second round than his 12-point, six-turnover outing Friday.

      TRENDS:

*Panthers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall
*Cavaliers are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall
*Over is 38-16 in Panthers last 54 games following a S.U. win
*Under is 9-4 in Cavaliers last 13 vs. ACC

Inside the stats: Louisville tough as No. 1 seed
        Marc Lawrence

As we enter this weekend’s college conference tourney and NBA action, let’s take inside the stats at what’s happening on the hardwood this season.
Note that all results are ATS (Against The Spread) in games played through Wednesday, March 12 unless noted otherwise.

        One Final Moment

It’s all on the line in conference tournament title games.
Not only is it the opportunity to cut down the nets and wear the crown as conference champions, it’s the penultimate to an appearance in the season-ending Big Dance.
From our database, here are some surprising factoids involving teams in conference tourney championship games (all results since 1991 unless noted otherwise):

The Good: Creighton is 9-0 SU and 8-1 ATS

The Bad: Florida is 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS

The Ugly: North Carolina 5-9 SU and 3-10-1 ATS

        Noteworthy:
Kansas 10-2 SU and 9-3 ATS
Kentucky 13-3 SU and 10-5-1 ATS
        Memphis 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS (L7Y)
Michigan State 3-0 SU and ATS
        Oregon 3-0 SU and ATS
Western Kentucky 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS

        Not so noteworthy:
        Pittsburgh 2-5 SU and ATS
        Texas 2-9 SU and 4-7 ATS (0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS L6)
        UTEP 1-5 SU and ATS
Tulsa 2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS

One closing note: teams in title games riding a 3-game ATS losing skid in their last three games are 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS.

        Trampolines

NBA teams off a SU underdog win can be prone to coming back to earth (bounce) or springing another upset in their next contest, largely depending on who they are.
This season, the best team in the league off a SU underdog win has been the Portland Trailblazers, who are 8-1 ATS in follow-up affairs. The Memphis Grizzles are right behind them at 8-3 ATS.
The worst team in the loop in the league in this role has been the Milwaukee Bucks, 2-9 ATS.
The best role for all teams in these contests has been fading home dogs off SU underdog wins as they stand 30-44 ATS including 6-21 ATS when off back-to-back wins.
On the other side of the coin, teams in the NBA off a SU favorite loss react differently. The L.A. Clippers have bounced back off the mat the best, going 9-1 ATS, while the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic have trouble getting back up at 2-5 ATS.
The best role for all teams in these games this season has been on the road against foes off a win as they are 50-29-1 ATS, including 22-4-1 in non-conference clashes.

        Down And Dirty
Listed below are the Top 5 Division-1 college hoops teams on the defensive front, in Defensive Field Goal percentage and Rebound Margin. Look to 'play on' these teams in either revenge or underdog roles:

        4. Arizona 38.2
        5. Virginia 38.4

        3. Arizona +9.0
        4. Wichita State +8.7
        5. Texas +8.4

Here is a list of the Top 5 NBA defensive teams:

Hot Nets face tough test versus Wizards
          Andrew Avery

Having cashed in against the spread in their last three games and seven of their last eight, the Brooklyn Nets and their backers will look for another notch in the winning column Saturday.

The Nets are in Washington to face the Wizards Saturday evening and haven't fared well versus the Wiz.

In two games this season, the Nets are 0-2 both straight up and ATS against the Wizards.

Saturday's game opened as a Pick at Americasbookie.com

***Pacers have started coast now for bettors

The Indiana Pacers have already booked their ticket to the playoffs this season and ever since they have soured for bettors.

The Pacers started the season 11-3 against the spread on the road, but since New Years they are a disastrous 3-13 ATS when away from Indiana. Covering the spread playing the east has been just as bad as the Pacers are 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven versus the lowly Eastern Conference.

The Pacers open as 5.5-point road favorites when they travel to Detroit to take on the Pistons Saturday.

          ***Bucks surprisingly hot ATS play

The Milwaukee Bucks have been atrocious this year and will almost definitely have a lottery pick in the draft. Somehow though, they've turned all their woes around for bettors.

The Bucks are 4-0 against the spread in their last four and 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games. The Bucks have also been paying out when the visit Madison Square Garden, going 8-3 ATS in the last 11 in the Big Apple.

Milwaukee will look to help out bettors some more when they face the Knicks as 10-point dogs Saturday.

Blues and Predators keeping it Under in Nashville
              By JUSTIN HARTLING

The St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators have always played hotly contested battles on the ice, leaving bettors on the Under happy.

In their last 66 contests the O/U record for the Blues and Preds is 17-45-4, a stretch that dates back to Mar. 19. 2002. During this 12-year Under streak, the Under has paid out for bettors in 26 of the past 34 in Music City.

The puckline for the Blues and Preds is 5.5 Saturday.

Big Ten Tournament betting cheat sheet: Day 3

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines (-2.5)

The fifth-seeded Buckeyes, who dropped a 70-60 decision at home to the Wolverines in their only meeting this season, overcame an 18-point second-half deficit against Nebraska to secure their 20th victory over their last 24 contests at this event.

On Saturday, the arch-rivals face off in the semifinals in Indianapolis after the Wolverines blew a 13-point second-half lead Friday to Illinois only to rally against a Illini team they defeated by 31 points 10 days earlier. Jordan Morgan hit the go-ahead basket with 7.9 seconds left to give Michigan a 64-63 win.

                    TRENDS:

                    * Underdog is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
                    * Buckeyes are 0-6 ATS in their last six neutral site games.
                    * Wolverines are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a ATS loss.
                    * Over is 5-1 in Wolverines last six vs. Big Ten.

Michigan State Spartans vs. Wisconsin Badgers

Michigan State closed the season with losses in seven of its final 12 games, but enjoyed its largest margin of victory since mid-January in Friday’s 67-51 quarterfinal victory over Northwestern. Branden Dawson told Michigan Live that assistant coach Mike Garland texted him before Friday’s game and simply said, ‘We need more.’ and he responded with an 8-of-12 effort from the field, 16 points and nine rebounds in his best performance in four games since the previous nine with a hand injury.

Wisconsin proved it was past its midseason lull when it handed Michigan State a heartbreaking two-point setback on Feb. 9. The Badgers’ victory that day was their second during an eight-game winning streak that followed a stretch in which they dropped five of the previous six. The Badgers turned in one of their most complete efforts of the season in Friday’s 83-57 rout, shooting 64 percent in the second half en route to posting their highest point total since a 95-point outburst against Illinois on Jan. 8. Wisconsin also held Minnesota to its worst field-goal percentage effort of the season (32.8).

                    TRENDS:

*Spartans are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall
*Badgers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U win
*Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings
*Spartans are 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings
