2-Unit Play. #626 Take Boston University (+2.5) over Illinois (7 p.m., Wednesday, March 19)
Let’s consider motivation here, or lack there of. How motivated and excited is Illinois going to be to travel to Boston to play in this game? I can’t imagine the Illini are going to get up for this one. Boston won the American outright in the regular season. They put together 24 wins on the year, and I see them performing well and viewing this as an opportunity for a lesser known mid-major to play into March and have some further success. Go with the home team here.

2-Unit Play. #665 Take Quinnipiac (+3) over Yale (7 p.m., Wednesday, March 19)
I don’t think these two teams are in the same category. Quinnipiac had a 20-win season and were extremely impressive relative to their expectations in the MAAC where they weren’t considered the most talented by any stretch against the likes of Iona, Canisius and Manhattan. But they held their own quite well all season. They will do well to defeat Yale here, a team that was just 15-13 in a much weaker Ivy League. Go with the Bobcats in this one.

6-Unit Play. #667 Take Towson (+2.5) over USC Upstate (7 p.m., Wednesday, March 19)
It’s fair for casual fans to simply write off tournaments such as the CIT, CBI and NIT. However we’re in the business of finding the best betting situations, and that’s not only going to be in the NCAA Tournament. This particular CIT match-up offers up a big time mismatch, and a lot of the time with these lesser postseason tournaments, it’s all about motivation and a team’s interest level. For Towson, that level is high. They weren’t one of the automatic bids to get added automatically after losing their conference tournament title game. They accepted an invitation and aren’t shy about wanting to keep playing. The Tigers’ four best players are all seniors. They helped the program to their highest RPI (96) and to a school record 23 wins this season. They want to finish on a much higher note than not getting a bid to the Big Dance. This is a good spot to wager on a team that will be highly motivated to play. Prior to Towson losing in the CAA semis, they had lost just once since late January, finishing the regular season 10-1. The Tigers did a really good job in conference play of beating teams they were suppose to beat. I genuinely thought Towson would be favored here, and still think they should be. But by oddsmakers not doing so, they’ve created great value on the underdog here. Towson is the better team from the better conference, and even more so they will want to impress in their first postseason opportunity since 1991. Towson steps up and continues their season with a win over USC Upstate.
