3-Unit Play #601 Take Chicago -13 over Philadelphia (7 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
We feel like this one will be another blowout just like the last time these teams met in a 25-point Bulls win in January. And that was when the Sixers had more upside. The Bulls match up real well with this struggling team. They are playing top-notch defense, and the Sixers have no one that can generate points on a regular basis. They Should hold the Sixers to a real low score, and the 70s is really possible, just like they did last time and how a similarly strong defensive team in Memphis did four nights ago. And Philly has been making everyone look like an offensive superstar lately as they give up 100+ almost every night, so we don’t think the Bulls will have any problems scoring enough to cover this line.
4-Unit Play #604 Take Boston +6.5 over Miami (7:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
LeBron can’t do it all, and without their superstar going crazy last night the Heat would have lost in Cleveland. And the Cavs were playing without Kyrie Irving, who suffered a biceps injury the game before. The Heat have just not been playing well and have lost five of their last eight. They come into this one on a back-to-back, and they are a very average 6-5-1 ATS on the second night of a back-to-back. But what we like most about this game is that the Celtics always come to play in this matchup. They have covered five straight meetings between these clubs, and we feel like we are getting a very public line here. This line should be closer to 2 with the way the Heat have been playing and them coming in on a back-to-back, One day of rest seems to be the sweet spot for Boston, who is 5-1 ATS in the last six in this situation, and we think they will be primed to compete for the win here. This team has been in a funk lately, but this team normally plays hard against top competition, and they have covered 13 of 16 in this matchup in Boston.
4-Unit Play #605 Take Charlotte/Brooklyn UNDER 194 (7:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
Both of these defenses have been playing very well lately, and we have no reason to believe that this won’t be a defensive battle on Wednesday. The Nets have allowed less than 93 points per game in their last 10 contests, and only one of those opponents has managed to get past the century mark, and that was a Washington team that scored only 101. This team has just been playing defense as well as anyone in the NBA lately. The Bobcats have allowed just over 94 points per game in their last eight, and they had one bad one bad defensive night against Memphis in a back-to-back where they allowed 111 that skews that average. They have been playing outstanding defense. These teams met early last month and the total reached only 194, and that was with the Nets hitting 50 percent from the floor. We don’t see them having that kind of success again (the Bobcats were on a back-to-back again in that game, but they are well-rested tonight). The under is 5-0 in the Bobcats last five games, and we don’t think the oddsmakers have adjusted to these teams’ current form.
2-Unit Play #610 Take New Orleans +1 over Toronto (8 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
The Hornets have not been getting a lot of Ws, but they have been playing hard every night, and this seems like a team content on finishing the season on a strong note instead of getting a better chance in the draft lottery. We think they have a great chance for the win tonight. This team has covered four of their last six, and one of the non-covers was an OT win against Boston, so they showed a lot of heart even though they didn’t cover. Anthony Davis is really coming into his own, and he will be the best player on the court tonight, and he has the ability to take a game over and put the team on his shoulders. Toronto has been pretty inconsistent lately, and they have not looked any better than the Hornets. We think there is a few points of value in this line.
4-Unit Play #611 Take Utah/Memphis OVER 188 (8 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
2-Unit Play #612 Take Memphis -11.5 over Utah (8 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
The Jazz have given up 120+ in two straight games and 108 or more in four of five. This team is just not playing any defense right now, and we think the Grizzlies can pick their score on offense tonight. This team generally does not score a lot on offense, but they have scored 103 or more in seven of their last 11 games, and they have scored 107 or more in six of those and 110 in three. So this team has shown recently that they can rack up the points, and if they score like they have been lately they will have no problem getting over this total. Utah has gone over in four of their last five games, so the bookies have been laying too-low numbers for this team’s totals. We see this one as a blowout, but we think the Grizzlies can score enough where the Jazz don’t need their points for this one to go over.
6-Unit NBA Game of the Week #618 Take Phoenix -11.5 over Orlando (10 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
We think this game has blowout city written all over it. The Suns have not been playing great, but they have had a ridiculously tough schedule lately. And this Orlando team is the perfect remedy for what has ailed this team. This team is pretty much Philadelphia bad on the road. They have only four wins on the season, and they give up 103+ points per game while averaging only 93.5 on offense. They will not be able to keep up with Phoenix tonight, and this high-paced offense should feat on the Orlando D tonight. This Suns team has been one of the best in the NBA against the spread this season, but the public has sure jumped off the ship pretty quickly. We think there is great value here as we think this line should be around 15. The Suns really need a big game, and this is the perfect opponent to get it against.
3-Unit Play #619 Take San Antonio -13.5 over LA Lakers (10:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
Just when you think the Spurs are slipping, they start playing like one of the best teams in the NBA, and that is where they are now. They have just been dominating lately, and they have won six out of their last seven by double-digits. Those are not patsies they have beaten, either. That includes wins against the Heat and Blazers. And the one game that wasn’t a double-digit win? An 8-point win in Chicago that easily covered the spread. And that includes a 34-point win over these same Lakers in a game where the Spurs barely broke a sweat before the starters were pulled. This is just a real mismatch, and we don’t see the Lakers being at all competitive here. This might be a revenge spot if the Lakers had the horses to run with the Spurs, but these teams are in a different stratosphere right now, and we just don’t see this matchup being at all competitive.
3-Unit Play. Take ‘Under’ 194 Charlotte at Brooklyn (7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 19)
This has 80s-80s written all over it. The Brooklyn Nets have been playing impressive defense during their recent home stint, allowing just 90.7 points per game during their home winning-streak. Charlotte has also struggled versus the Nets recently averaging 88 points per game and dropping eight of nine to them. This is just a bad matchup for the Bobcats offensively as the Nets have the necessary size, and strength to slow this game down. Both teams are in the heat of a playoff seeding battle and this is the type of game where each squad cherish’s the basketball for every offensive possession. Both meetings this season have finished at 194 or under and this one will be the same. Take the ‘under’ here.
