Game: Texas Rangers @ Houston Astros
Time: Wednesday 05/14 8:10 PM Eastern
Pick: Houston +103 (moneyline) at BetPhoenix

The Houston Astros lose a lot of games. At first glance of the line here, one would make a knee-jerk reaction and side with the Texas Rangers. The public certainly has taken the bait as 65% of them are on the visitors in this one. There are a few problems with that logic. Over the last 16 games, it is Houston with a better record than Texas. The Rangers' rotation has been diminished by injuries, and Nick Tepesch is just 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA. Houston has received top-of-the-rotation work from Scott Feldman with his 1.93 ERA on the season, and his former team has a lifetime .197 batting average against him. The Rangers are going through a troubling stretch, and are mis-matched on the mound here. Play on Houston.

                              Play #1

We’ve lost w/ the Under in the last game of this series, but I’m back again playing the Under in tonight’s contest as the circumstances really didn’t change for this game.

As usual, last game was a slow paced affair w/ Pace Factor of 82.7 and obviously, both teams were incredible efficient on the offensive end! I’ve watched once again the game today and I couldn’t stop noticed the incredible number of times that both teams hit some tough contested jumpers… I’ve just checked NBA.com/stats… MIA went 23-37 FG (62.2%!!!) in contested shots and even the Nets shot 27-59 FG (45.8%!) in those shots!

Naturally, we can expect a bit of regression from both teams for tonight and therefore, I’m playing the Under in here as my Single Dime Play!

                                **SAN ANTONIO (-8) over Portland
                                06:30 PM Pacific Rotation: 740
Portland took advantage of a cold shooting Spurs team (17% 3-pointers and 58% free throws) to win game 4 at home but San Antonio has still outscored the Blazers by 45 points in this series and I expect them to put this series away at home. San Antonio is very likely to bounce back from their game 4 loss, as the Spurs are 16-1-1 ATS at home after exactly 1 playoff loss in the Tim Duncan era, including their 119-96 game 7 win over Dallas in the first round. The Spurs also apply to a 78-24-2 ATS playoff bounce-back situation tonight and my ratings favor San Antonio by 8.7 points, so the line is more than fair. I’ll take San Antonio in a 2-Star Best Bet at -9 points or less.
Strong Opinion – MIAMI (-7) over Brooklyn
                                04:00 PM Pacific Rotation: 738
Miami has had a habit of raising their level of play in the postseason during the LeBron James era and this year has been no different. The Heat are 42-23-1 ATS in playoff games when not favored by 10 points or more, including 6-1 ATS this year and 15-2 ATS against teams with a win percentage of less than .575. On average the Heat have played 2.0 points better in playoff games than during the regular season (in games with their stars playing). My ratings favor Miami by 6.2 points based on current lineups using this season’s data and the question is if Miami’s past improvement in playoff games is real or just variance. That 2.0 average boost in performance over the regular season rating is based 75 playoff games, which is pretty significant, but it is still likely that part of that difference is random. But, I do think 7 is at least a fair line and the Heat apply to a solid 112-49-2 ATS playoff situation (they’re 10-5 ATS in that situation in the LeBron era). I’ll consider Miami a Strong Opinion.
