While Ryan Vogelsong (4-2, 3.39 ERA) had a shaky start to the season, he has been outstanding over his last three starts and he will take the mound tonight against Stephen Strasburg (5-4, 3.10 ERA) and the Washington Nationals. Both of these teams are playing good baseball right now with the Giants sporting the bst record in MLB. The Nationals have won seven of their last nine games and the Giants are winners of five in a row and 14 of their last 17 games. Over his last three starts, Vogelsong has been dominant going 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA. While Strasburg has been really good at home, life on the road hasn't been quite the same. He is 0-3 over his five road starts this seaosn with a 4.80 ERA. The Giants have given Vogelsong really good support when playing he better teams on their schedule as they are 7-1 in Vogelsong's last eight starts vs. teams with a winning record. An interesting trend line to consider is the Nationals inability to back up wins as they are 8-17 in their last 25 games following a win. We really like the way Vogelsong is throwing the ball right now and we see lots of value backing the Giants here at home tonight.

Monday’s MLB betting cheat sheet: Texas-sized total
Here’s a comprehensive look at betting notes for Monday’s major league games:
Big Faves Come Through
Sunday’s three biggest favorites all came through in afternoon action. The Los Angeles Angels (-165) held on for a 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox, while Cincinnati (-163) defeated Philadelphia 4-1 and Oakland (-139)
Nationals Stay Low
The Washington Nationals (-119) capped their stingiest week of the season, blanking the San Diego Padres 6-0 for their third shutout in a six-game stretch. The Nationals have won seven of nine and are 2-5 O/U in their last seven, dropping to 29-25-7 O/U for the season.
Texas-Sized Total
The Texas Rangers (+105, 10) see their biggest home total of the season Monday as they wrap up a four-game series with the Cleveland Indians. Texas went 5-5 S/U and 2-8 O/U in 10 home games in 2013 with the total set at double digits.
Pitching Notes
* Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg has been one of the strongest Over bets among starting pitchers, going 14-6-1 O/U in his last 21 outings dating back to the end of last season. Strasburg and the Nationals (-120, 6.5) face host San Francisco on Monday.
* Cincinnati southpaw Tony Cingrani will look to recoup some of his value as he and the Reds (-105, 8) host the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cingrani ranks 211th out of 222 starters in money won at $-527, a far cry from his modest gain of $27 during his rookie 2013 campaign.
Hitting Notes
* Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion is just 3-for-17 over his last five games while failing to drive in a run during that span. Toronto is 3-2 SU over that stretch but has dropped two straight and has gone Under in three in a row entering Monday’s tilt with visiting Minnesota (+158, 9.5).
* New York Yankees outfielder Alfonso Soriano is mired in a 2-for-21 slump over his last seven games, dipping his average to .229. The Yankees are 2-5 S/U and 3-4 O/U in that span as they conclude their series with host Kansas City (-126, 8).
Totals Streak
New York Mets (7-2-1 O/U): The Mets are caught in the clutches of a six-game losing skid thanks in large part to a pitching staff that has surrendered an average of nearly five runs per game during the streak. New York is 28-25-10 O/U for the season.
Prop of the Day
Take a shot on San Francisco to beat Washington by exactly two runs (+750). Two of the Giants’ previous three victories have been by a pair of runs, and the Giants earned two two-run victories in six meetings with the Nationals in 2013.
Injury Notes
* Tampa Bay right-hander Jeremy Hellickson threw three scoreless innings in a rehab start over the weekend as he recovers from offseason elbow surgery. Hellickson went 12-10 with a 5.17 ERA in 33 starts last season, in which the Rays went 18-15 S/U and 16-15-2 O/U.
* Boston starter Clay Buchholz (knee) reported no soreness after a 48-pitch simulated game. Buchholz has struggled mightily this season, going 2-4 with a 7.02 ERA while losing $-356 in value over 10 starts.
Weather Watch
* Wind at U.S. Cellular Field will blow from left to right field at 11 mph for Monday’s game between the host Chicago White Sox (+114, 8.5) and the Detroit Tigers. Teams averaged 9.46 runs and 2.58 homers in 24 games under similar conditions in 2013, slightly above stadium averages.
Umpire Stat of the Day
Over is 5-1-1 in umpire Jim Wolf’s last seven games behind home plate. Wolf will call the balls and strikes for the series finale between Cleveland and Texas.
