        Hondo

Hondo bounced back from Wednesday’s double-flusher by scoring with Tanaka and the Yankees Thursday night to lower the accounts payable to 1,445 reeses.

Friday night: Mr. Aitch will give the nod to another ace — 10 units on Kershaw to provide a smokeless Rocky Mountain high.

Joey Chestnut -2000 to obliterate field in Hot Dog Eating contest
              Andrew Avery Jul 3, 2014

One of the staples of the Fourth of July holiday is, of course, Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The hot dog celebration was dominated from 2001 to 2006 by the legendary Kobayashi who won each event in that span. Since 2006 however, it has been all Joey Chestnut.

Chestnut has won seven-straight events since 2007 and he is the overwhelming favorite to take home the prize again this year.

The defending champ is favored at -2000 versus the field to win the event with "the field" coming in at +1000 at 5Dimes.

You can also wager the over/under on hot dogs eaten by Chestnut. The current line is 70 dogs (over +325, under -475) or you can bet O/U 69 dogs (over +125, under -165).

Chestnut broke the record in 2013 by eating 69 hot dogs.

                          Germany -½ +153 over France

July 4, 12:00 PM EST. The French have been excellent in this tournament so far, as they have accumulated 10 goals in four games and could have potentially struck for even more. France’s most impressive feat was their 5-2 dismantling of Switzerland in the group stage. There is no need to question to quality on the French side, as they have some exquisite footballers in Mathieu Valbuena and Karim Benzema.

Germany, despite some lackluster outings against Algeria and Ghana, has always scored when they needed to. The Germans entered the tournament with a bang, routing Portugal four to nil in their opening match. Since then, the Germans have struggled against their group stage opponents and narrowly escaped America in their final contest. However, the scores are not indicative of the quality brand of football that the Germans play. The Germans dominate possession and find ways to create opportunities. France plays a different style, as they are very vertical-oriented and create goals of aesthetic pleasure. France also enjoys set pieces and for a German team that has seemed a bit porous on the back-end, this could spell trouble.

Nevertheless, the Germans have always been a reliable and steadfast club. The Germans have reached at least the top four in their last three World Cups and it would be hard to see them going out in the quarterfinals to the French team. The tag on Germany to win in regulation time is a delicious opportunity to bet on the world’s top team and one we’re not about to pass on.

                          FIFA World Cup

                          Colombia +½ +108 over Brazil

                          Columbia +368 over Brazil

July 4, 4:00 PM EST. We’re going to split this up and play 1 unit on Columbia @ +368 and 1 unit on them @ +½ +108 for a total bet of 2 units.

Despite a wonderful World Cup campaign consisting of a top-10 world ranking and a flawless Group Stage, Colombia has been sullied heading in to their quarterfinal bout with Brazil. This is further aggravated by the fact that the hosts narrowly escaped defeat when a closing stages Chilean attempt on goal careened off the crossbar, which ultimately propelled Brazil to a penalty shootout victory. Even more eerily was the manner in which Chile was eliminated, a penalty which bounced out of the net and secured Brazil’s advancement. Brazil will not be so lucky against a Colombian team that dominated a traditional power in Uruguay. Many can argue that the absence of Luis Suarez played a role in the affair, however Colombia thoroughly controlled possession. This same strategy can spell defeat for a Brazilian team that struggled to find its rhythm in the second half against a club that is far inferior to Colombia. The problem Brazil faces here is that Colombia is the best team they will face in this tournament.

This bet could be the best value of the entire tournament so far. Colombia has a great chance to send the hosts home and continue on to the semi-finals. This is a dynamic team and a very potent and proficient club when it comes to procuring opportunities and maintaining possession. Possession teams have proven to be extremely difficult to knock off and that’s what the Columbians bring to the table. Neymar is one of the best players in the world for Brazil and he and the rest of their attacking forwards but cannot do much without the ball. Look for Colombia figures to strip Brazil of opportunities and play sound defense just like they do every time they step on the pitch. Definite upset possibility.
