St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins

    Wednesday 5* MLB FREE Play

    5* St. Louis Cardinals +114

Justin Masterson is having one of the worst free agent to be season in recent memory. Since being traded to St. Louis he has been torched but those were against first place teams that can hit not third place teams that can’t.

I am not expecting him to toss a no-hitter but I do think he can tame the Marlins enough to get St. Louis a victory. The value is just too good on the Cardinals side.

      Chase's 10* MLB HOME COOKING

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners

      10* Seattle Mariners -158

This game features the 63-58 Jays at the 64-55 Mariners. Jays just have 3 wins out of their last 10 while the Mariners are 802 last 10 and are streaking toward a wild card bid. They have won 3 straight and have a big advantage on the mound tonight in Hisashi Iwakuma who is 10-6 with a 2.86 ERA. He faces Dickey who has been just a average pitcher this season. We are seeing heavy steam going on Seattle and we will follow it for a 10* play take the Mariners here

Game of the Day: Dodgers at Braves

Los Angeles Dodgers at Atlanta Braves (-113, 7)

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to maintain their recent dominance of the Atlanta Braves when the teams continue their four-game series Wednesday in Atlanta. After dispatching the Braves in the National League Division Series last fall, the Dodgers have claimed the first five meetings between the teams in 2014. Each of those victories have come in the past three weeks, playing a big role in the divergent paths for the two squads.

Los Angeles has won three straight and 13 of 18 to expand its lead in the National League West to six games over San Francisco. Atlanta, meanwhile, has lost 11 of 13 to tumble five games behind first-place Washington in the NL East and 2 1/2 games back of the second wild-card spot. With another loss Wednesday, the Braves would sit at .500 for the first time since they opened the year 1-1.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), SportSouth (Atlanta)

LINE HISTORY: Pinnacle Sports opened the Bravesa as -108 faves but the line now sits -113. The total has held at 7.

INJURY REPORT: Dodgers - SS Hanley Ramirez (15-day DL, oblique). Braves - SS Andrelton Simmons (Questionable, ankle).

POWER RANKINGS: Dodgers (-194), Braves (-164)

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: "The Dodgers may not be dominating the opposition right now, but they still have the make-up of a World Series contender. It will be interesting to see if the Braves are able to build on a much-needed series win over the division rival Nats." Sean Murphy.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-5, 3.21 ERA) vs. Braves RH Ervin Santana (11-6, 3.69)

Ryu is 4-0 with a 1.91 ERA over his last five starts after tossing seven scoreless innings in a win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. He has limited opponents to a .198 average while posting 32 strikeouts against only four walks in that span. Ryu last faced the Braves in Game 3 of the NLDS in October, giving up four runs and six hits in only three innings.

Santana cruised through five scoreless frames in his previous start against Washington before giving up four runs in his sixth and final inning, but still managed to pick up his fourth straight win. He has a 2.65 ERA during the winning streak, which also includes one no-decision at San Diego earlier this month. The veteran is 4-4 with a 3.27 ERA in eight career starts versus the Dodgers.

        TRENDS:

        * Dodgers are 7-0 in the last seven meetings.
        * Under is 4-0 in umpire Ripperger's last four games behind home plate.
        * Braves are 2-11 in their last 13 overall.
        * Dodgers are 5-0 in Ryu's last five starts.

CONSENSUS: 61.97 percent of wagers are backing the Dodgers.

Home team cashing with Meals behind the dish
          Andrew Avery

The home team has won four-straight ball games with umpire Jerry Meals calling balls and strikes.

Meals will be working behind the plate in Cincinnati as the Reds host the Boston Red Sox in interleague action Wednesday afternoon.

Meals ranks 30th in our MLB Umpire Homer standings with a record of 12-9 on the season. There is an average of 9.62 runs scored in the 21 games he's worked home plate this season.

The Reds are currently -148 favorites for the game.

            River City Sharps

While the Tigers looked like world beaters after they acquired David Price prior to the trading deadline, now they can't seem to keep pitchers healthy and are going deep into the minors to get tonight's starter. The Tigers will give the ball to Buck Farmer, who has only pitched at the A and Double-A levels this season and gets his major league debut tonight. He will be opposed by the Pirates Vance Worley (5-1, 2.30) who has been sensational for the Pirates since being promoted from Triple-A in June. Both of these teams are in the heat of the pennant race as the Tigers now find themselves trailing the Royals by a 1/2 game while the Bucs lead the NL wildcard race. The Pirates are playing some of their best baseball of the year and are 6-1 in their last seven games vs. teams with a winning record. While Farmer looks to be a top prospect for these Tigers, we think he will find tonight's bright lights to be a BIG step up in class. We are backing the hot road dog in this spot. The Sharps say...
