UMass can’t run the football and they can’t stop the run. This team has a decent passing attack, but it is only a matter of time before being unbalanced catches up with you. Ball State has the best player on the field in running back Jahwan Edwards. I don’t think this UMass Defense has a single player on it that can slow this guy down and if they focus on him they are going to get beat deep. It really is as simple as that. Nobody is giving Ball State a shot in this game, but they have a better program and a much better coach. This is the first year head coach Mark Whipple has been in D-1 Football and he is 2-7. This team is making strides, but I don’t think they are there yet. I love their passing attack and the weapons they have, but they don’t have a rushing attack and the defense is just brutal. This 17 day layoff is also never good for a bad football team. I think Ball State scores at will while UMass will put up their fair share of points. Both teams have key defensive injuries that should make this high scoring. I always trust a team with a great running back trying to close out a game opposed to not being able to run enough clock to put a team away. Take Ball State and the OVER.
