5 Unit Play Take #519 New Orleans -2.5 over Denver (9:05pm est):

It won't be long before the New Orleans Hornets start to become priced like the top ten team that they are these days but until they do we will keep looking to back them. The Hornets have played a tough schedule to start the season but despite that they've come out with a solid start to their year at 6-4 overall. They've won three of four coming into this one inlcuding beating a solid Sacramento on the road their last time out. Their lone loss in those last four games was against 8-3 Portland in a game they completely fell apart in during the 4th quarter. The other three defeats this year were to King James and Cleveland on the road in a game that the Hornets covered the spread, losing at 10-2 Memphis and and also at home to what is a very good 9-3 Dallas team meaning that the Hornets have only been beaten by playoff caliber, above .500 teams so far this season. Their 4-0 this year when going up against below .500 teams like the one they face here tonight and have won those four games by an average of over 20 points per win.

The Denver Nuggets have covered just 1 of their 5 home games this season so far and that was in the season opener against a bad Detroit Pistons squad. The Nuggets have played against four teams with above .500 records and have been soundly beaten in all four contests, going 0-4 against the spread against them while losing by an average of 15 points per game overall.

These two teams are being priced like their only 1 or 2 levels of difference between them when the reality is the gap is much wider than that. Take New Orleans here. Big weekend of football action on tap and it kicks off tomorrow. 4-Unit Play #515 Take Brooklyn/Oklahoma City UNDER 187 (8 p.m. EST, Friday)

Got to go with the under here again in an OKC game. Both teams should come into this one exhausted. Both clubs had the night off on Thursday. However, Brooklyn played a grueling three-OT game on Wednesday against the Bucks, while the Thunder played the second of a back-to-back on Wednesday in the high altitude of Denver. These Thunder players are definitely not used to playing this many minutes, and this is already one of the worst offensive teams in the league. They have had to rely on defense since scoring has been such a challenge. This has always been a solid defensive team, but they often played in many high-scoring games since Westbrook and Durant were so dynamic on offense, and they could essentially outscore other teams. But now they have to rely on that defense and slowing the game down. The Nets have been inconsistent on both defense and offense. But they have allowed a respectable field goal percentage that has them in the middle of the pack in that category defensively, and they should be able to hold the Thunder to a low point total here. The Nets have averaged just 91 points in regulation in their last four games, and it just doesn't look like this is the game where they will have a breakout offensive output.


4-Unit Play #524 Take Portland -7.5 over Chicago (10:30 p.m. EST, Friday)

Just think this is a great spot for the Blazers. The Bulls got smoked last night in Sacramento, and now they have to regroup quick and play shorthanded on a back-to-back against a much better team. And the Blazers are well rested after having a rare three nights off, and that is huge at this point of the season. Rose and Gasol are questionable here and unlikely to play. That means players played a lot of minutes last night and contributes even more to the fatigue factor for the Bulls. Portland is playing as well as anyone in the NBA right now having won five straight and seven of eight, with their only loss being a slim one in LA against the Clippers. They have blowouts of Cleveland and Dallas in that stretch. They come into this game healthy as well as Batum should rejoin the team tonight after missing four games. The Blazers always seem to play well in this series and have won six straight, covering five of those games, and three were by 10 or more points. This one has a great chance to be another double-digit blowout.


2-Unit Play #501 Take Phoenix/Philadelphia UNDER 209 (7 p.m. EST, Friday)

The Sixers are the worst offensive team in the NBA. They have scored more than 90 points only once during their last seven games, and in two of those games they wound up in the 70s. This team has now gone under in four straight games, and we think that this total is a bit too high as well. Philly's defense has actually been decent the last three games as they averaged 96 points allowed to Houston, San Antonio and Boston, three pretty good offensive teams. The Suns are a very good offensive team. But as long as they don't get 110 or above we should be pretty safe here, and we think there is a great chance that the Sixers really struggle to score here again. Philadelphia has faced six totals 200 or higher this season, and the under is 5-1 in those games, so they normally fall well short of expectations in these situations. Good chance for a blowout here, and that would bode well for the under.

Gardner Webb plays the Clemson Tigers,the Runnin Bulldogs come from a high scoring loss to LSU in the season opener but they impressed especially in the first half where they controled the game ,the Duo Jerome Hill and Tyrell Nelson had 39 points combined ,but only 10 in the second half,the stubborn Bulldogs gave LSU a hard time on the defensive end, in the second half LSU was able to pull away to a 16 point margin before Gardner Webb closed with a strong run but ended up losing 82-93,overall a good game form the Runnin Bulldogs

the Clemson Tigers started their season with a blow out win against Florida A&M and a 74-77 loss to Winthrop,thats not really a good reference for todays game,Center Llandry Nnoke with 19 points was the TOP scorer for the Tigers in a balanced team,especially on defense Clemson have to pick it up otherwise they will face a nasty surprise against the Runnin Bulldogs
