The Seton Hall Pirates travel to Tampa for this 7:00 ET tipoff at the Sun Dome against the S. Florida Bulls. USF comes off a pair of consecutive 12 win seasons, while Seton Hall looks to build on their 17 win season of last. The beauty of this selection is that the pointspread remains consistent with where it would have been last season. While S. Florida figures to struggle once again this year, Seton Hall is making a major step forward, providing us with huge value in this contest.
S. Florida struggled the previous 2 seasons, the last, under then 6th year HC Heath. The problems were injuries throughout the roster, as well as lack of offensive ability. The end result was a record of 12-20 SU, including 3-15 SU in their first year in the AAC. With just 2 RS, the Bulls look to improve under 1st year HC Antigua. Antigua has paid his dues as a player, then Asst. at Pitt, as well as holding that same position in recent years on the staff of John Calipari at Kentucky. Antigua has enough coaching experience and recruiting ability to make this work. But, the talent is not yet apparent this season. In 2 lined home games, the Bulls have failed to cover a 4 point impost in a 71-70 Hofstra victory. Last Saturday, as 8 point home chalk, USF fell to Georgia Southern (68-63) on this floor. It was their 3rd consecutive defeat, dropping them to 4-4 SU for the season. Their Sun Dome home provides little resistance for visiting foes. For, the Bulls are just 20-18 SU at home the previous 2+ years.
Enter a Seton Hall team, whose fortunes have turned under 5th year HC Willard. Sometimes the chemistry just clicks! A middle of the pack Big East finish was expected, when the Pirates lost 4 of their top 5 scorers from last year. But, a solid recruiting class, hard work and great attitude have led to a better than expected start of 8-1 SU (only loss at Wichita St.) and 8-0 ATS. Most of those victories have been against teams of the same ilk as this S. Florida team. Top recruit, Isaiah Whitehead, has teamed with returning players Gibbs, Sina and Mobley, to form a solid nucleus.
The Pirates are a hungry team, who bounced from their only loss vs. Wichita St. to continue their 8-0 ATS run. We ride that at this value price against a still developing S. Florida team.Comment
