4-Unit Play #705 Take Washington +5.5 over Atlanta (7:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)

The Hawks just had their 19-game winning streak snapped last time out against New Orleans. It takes laser focus to sustain a streak like that, but once it’s over we expect a letdown from this team moving forward as they used a ton of energy keeping the streak alive and now should come back to earth a bit since this is now just another game instead of part of a streak that is one of the shining moments in franchise history. Washington also has revenge for a total beatdown in Atlanta a few weeks ago, and we think that Washington could get the straight up win here, but we expect the game to be close either way.

4-Unit Play #707 Take Denver +2.5 over Boston (7:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)

The Nuggets looked awful in last night’s game at Philly. They were down 20+ at one point. But they had a strong second half and made a game of it at the end. We think that positive momentum will carry over to tonight. Boston is in a letdown spot here after a big win on Super Bowl Sunday but they had lost three straight winnable games before that. This is a case of a bad team from the west against a bad team from the east that is in letdown mode, and we think the Nuggets are a stronger overall team and that they should challenge for the win tonight.

7-Unit NBA Game of the Year #712 Take Minnesota -2 over Miami (8 p.m. EST, Wednesday)

The Heat are coming in on a back-to-back after a hard-fought and physical game last night in Detroit, and we think this is a really bad spot for them. You don’t see the Timberwolves as a favorite too often, but in this case it is absolutely justified, and we think that this line is actually a bit short. The Timberwolves have lost three straight and eight of nine, and we think they take advantage here in this situation of a very winnable game. Minnesota is finally getting healthy and should start playing much better with their full complement of rotation players available. We think that the Timberwolves will start to play harder down the stretch of the season. This is not a veteran club that was expected to play well this season. This is a young team that was expected to struggle and one that got hit hard by the injury bug. But if they can stay healthy they can build some positive momentum for next season down the stretch.

5-Unit Play #715 Take Oklahoma City +4 over New Orleans (8 p.m. EST, Wednesday)

The Pelicans had one of their biggest games of the season last time out against the Hawks in snapping their 19-game winning streak. This one has letdown written all over it as the Pelicans are not the type of team that normally strings together two strong performances like this in a row. The Thunder will be without Kevin Durant again in this game, but Westbrook is more than capable of leading this team to a win in this spot. The Thunder have not been playing well lately and that is why we are getting a nice line here, and we expect them to win this game outright as we just don’t think the Pelicans are good enough to win three in a row against playoff teams (they beat the Clippers right before the Hawks game). OKC will come in desperate tonight, and a caged animal is dangerous. OKC should also play with extra heart tonight since the Pelicans have already beat them twice this season, and the Thunder are a team that plays with a lot of pride. We think this one will be an outright OKC win, but the points are just a bonus in case of a close game.

4-Unit Play #717 Take Orlando +13.5 over San Antonio (8:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)

Believe it or not, the Magic actually have a much better ATS record than the Spurs. They are 26-25 this season ATS compared to 21-25-2 for San Antonio. The Spurs are kind of sleepwalking through this regular season and this is a letdown game for them in our opinion against a team that is very scrappy, especially when getting double-digit points. The Magic are 7-2 ATS when getting double-digit points this season, and they should be extra motivated for a big game tonight visiting the home of the defending world champs. We think that Orlando comes to play tonight and that this line is at least four points off the mark.

4-Unit Play #719 Take Memphis/Utah UNDER 187.5 (9 p.m. EST, Wednesday)

The Grizzlies, of course, are one of the best defensive teams in the league. They have been excellent lately, holding six of their last seven opponents way under 100, and only the Suns last time out reached the century mark. They have allowed only 85 points during that stretch and four of those opponents wound up in the mid-80s or lower. The Jazz have been playing some very decent defense themselves and have allowed an average of only 93 PPG in their last eight games entering Tuesday’s action, which included contests against the Warriors, Clippers, Cavs and Spurs. So this looks like a defensive battle here tonight, and we think this total is at least four points too high. These teams have played under the total in six of the last seven matchups, and only one of those combined totals went over tonight’s posted number. The Jazz are just not a team with a lot of firepower, and we don’t see them doing much against a Grizzlies team that is trending heavily towards the under and playing great defense at the moment. And we also think the Jazz can stop the Grizzlies from going crazy offensively as they have been very good in this regard as well lately. Utah is also right outside the Top 10 defensively and should enter that group of top defenses if they keep playing the way they have been lately.
