STRIKE POINT SPORTS (NBA) 8-Unit Play. Take #814 Memphis (-5) over Los Angeles Clippers (8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
The Clippers just aren’t a good road team, and the Grizzlies are a tough matchup for them. Memphis slows the basketball game down and plays at an extremely methodical pace, which is not what the Clip Joint likes to do. The Grizz also have the size and athleticism to match DeAndre Jordan in the post, which makes the half court game even more difficult for Los Angeles. If Jordan gets into foul trouble, which I believe he will, the Grizzlies could run away with this game. Even if Jordan gets to play his typical minutes I see the Grizzles winning this game by double-figures. Tonights contest has a 100-90 type feel to it. Memphis is coming in to this game off a bad loss to the Sacramento Kings, but I firmly believe that they were looking forward to this contest. The Grizzlies just looked lethagic in that game, but that won’t happen tonight. Memphis is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games following a S.U. loss and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss. Even better than those two trends is the fact that the Clippers just plain struggle with the Grizzlies. The Clips are 1-5 ATS in their last six trips to Memphis and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games versus the Grizzlies. Take the home team here as they cash at the window. 3-Unit Play. Take #806 Detroit (-13) over New York (7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
The Knicks just don’t have enough to stay with even decent teams in the NBA. Now by no means are the Pistons a top flight team, but they have plenty of scorers and post players to win this game by 20. The Knicks have a blue print to their team since Carmelo left, and that is keep games close for a bit, maybe even have a lead, but in the late third quarter, and early fourth, just let it fall apart. Detroit’s post game in Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond will absolutely be too much for New York to handle, and Reggie Jackson will have his way on the perimeter. Look for the Pistons to win this one 110-90. Detroit is 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a S.U. loss and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games. 3-Unit Play. Take #812 Boston (-2) over Charlotte (7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
I like the way the Celtics are playing and the contributions they are getting from their new players. Yes, Charlotte is getting solid play from their new acquistion, Mo Williams, but I think the workman like-attacking attitude that the Celtics are playing with will get the job done tonight on their home floor. Boston is 5-0 ATS in their last five games versus the Eastern Conference, and 4-0 ATS in their last four home games, while Charlotte is just 1-4 ATS in their last five games when playing on one days rest. Take the home team here.
ALLEN EASTMAN (CBB) 2-Unit Play. Take ‘Over’ 192.5 New York at Detroit (7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
I like the Pistons now that they have Reggie Jackson. He was a nice addition for this team. The Knicks do not play any defense and I can see the newfound Pistons offense easily scoring over 100 points and they could get to 110 points. 4-Unit Play. Take #802 Philadelphia (+8.5) over Washington (7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
The Wizards have lost five straight games. They need a win. They might get it against the 76ers. But they are not going to cover this spread. This Wizards team is in big trouble. Injuries have crushed them. They are without Bradley Beal tonight. They might have to play without Paul Pierce and Kris Humphries tonight too. That is most of their best players. Philadelphia is one of the worst teams in the league. But they will play hard at home. They also have revenge for a 35-point loss against Washington just last month. I think that Philadelphia will have a chance to win this game tonight. But no matter who wins I see this game as a close and low scoring game and I don’t see a blowout. Philadelphia isn’t an underdog of less than 10 points very often. But in this instance they are for a reason. 4-Unit Play. Take #813 Los Angeles Clippers (+5) over Memphis (8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
The Clippers just lost to the Grizzlies at home on Monday by just three points. They will want to get revenge in this one and I see it being another close game. Memphis has dominated this series (9-1 ATS) and they have been one of the best teams in the league this year. But I thought this number was lower than I expected when it opened at 4.0. The public has bet the line up to 5.0. But I think the books had it right the first time. I think that the Clippers could be poised for an upset here. They have not played well at all lately but they are still just a 5.0 underdog. This spread should be closer to 7.5. But it isn’t because this game is going to be close and the Clippers could pull the upset. I will call for them to win this game outright. Take the points. 5-Unit Play. Take #828 Portland (-5.5) over Oklahoma City (10:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
The Thunder had their winning streak snapped last night in Phoenix. That was a tough overtime loss and now they have to fly to Portland and play the Blazers. That is a lot to ask this Thunder team. Portland won the first two meetings this year and the favorite is 6-2 ATS the last eight times these two teams have met. Portland is coming off a blowout win over San Antonio and won that won by 16 points. They have also blown out Phoenix and the Lakers at home over the last three weeks. I think it is too much to ask that OKC come back tonight with another top effort after that late game last night. Portland will get the job done. 2-Unit Play. Take #816 Houston (-7) over Brooklyn (8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27)
The Rockets have won their last three games in this homestand and have looked very sharp. They are 3-0 ATS in those games. Brooklyn is in the middle of a huge road trip. This is their sixth straight road game and they haven’t played at home since Feb. 6. They have one more road game tomorrow at Dallas. This team is winding down. Houston has won nine of the last 10 meetings in this series and they are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against Brooklyn. They are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games hosting the Nets. The Rockets are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games and they are 7-3 ATS against teams from the East. The favorite is 18-7-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings in this series.
