7-Unit Play. #520. Take UCLA -6 over UAB (Saturday @ 12:05pm est) (Currently -5.5 ) The line likely will keep dropping and we are ok with that. You probably can get -5.5 as the game gets near tip off but we have UCLA winning by a much wider margin. We went with UCLA over SMU as they won Outright and goaltending or no goaltending call, they played great that contest and really showed that they belong. The committee took a lot of heat but was firm that this team passed the eye test more than Colorado State and they showed that they indeed did belong as they led SMU most of the way, before coughing up the lead and then surging to come back and win. Really a great deal of guts by the team. Now that resolve will be tested as they look to not overlook UAB to head into the round of 16. A few things here. UCLA is the same team that beat Utah earlier this year, a team that has played Arizona twice and played very competitively against them, beat Coloardo, Stanford, Oregon, gave Gonzaga a good game and beat UAB earlier this year by 12 points. Sure UAB can have revenge, make the necessary changes and so on, but the line itself is relatively low for this type of game which indicates that UCLA will have an edge on the defensive end. UAB is outside the top 260 in turnover margin, outside the top 240 in effective field goal percentage and UCLA is top 100 in turnover margin, top 60 in defense and top 50 in offense. Plus, this is a great public fade as the public believes that UCLA should not in this spot, wants to take the underdog such as a Georgia State or UAB – but UAB is not a team that will sneak up on UCLA who has already played them this year – and UCLA will want to show once again that they deserve to be here and no call or goaltending will be needed in this game as they will look to leave this one in no doubt. Look for UCLA to take the public down a bit here winning this contest by likely double-digits as this contest will be similar to the Northern Iowa contest yesterday likely.
