LA LAKERS (+17.5) over LA Clippers
10:30 p.m. ET
Free picks on a 21-7 75% tear and tonight we turn to the NBA and take a team that nobody would want coming off it’s worst game in several years. We have made a fortune over the years taking teams off horrendous performances to bounce back in their next game but even we have to hold our noses to play this one. Lakers lost to the Clippers on Sunday, 106-78. The game was not even as close as the 28 point final margin indicates as the Clippers led by as many as 43 in handing the Lakers their franchise record 56th loss. Now, just two nights later, they meet again and the Lakers are the biggest NBA underdog of the year at +17.5! Clippers will think they can just show up and win, and they will be right but they will not win by 18 or more. Look for the Lakers to play with a little pride today and keep it fairly close.
5-Unit Play. Take #652 Miami -4 over Charlotte (Tuesday, April 7th at 7:35 p.m.)
My spreadsheet has Miami winning this game by a final score of 101-90. The key components in this matchup are: home court advantage and health
Miami has been struggling lately, that is no big secret. Having said that, they are at home and they really need this win. On top of that, they will face Charlotte without Al Jefferson. That is a big deal. The last time these two teams faced each other in Miami, Jefferson had 22 points and 12 rebounds. Losing that output will hurt the Hornets a great deal tonight. This is a game the Heat have to have and I love their chances without AJ in the lineup.
JASON SHARPE (NBA)
3 Unit Play Take #652 ‘under’ 189.5 Charlotte/Miami (7:35pm est):
Big game here for both of these squads who are fighting for a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Like I’ve stated many times before, important games for both teams in the NBA usually brings playoff type intensity on the defensive end of things.
Charlotte is expected to be without Al Jefferson in this one as he’s nursing a sore right knee right now. The Hornets have been more of a defensive team and score less without him on the floor. They’ve played back to back ‘unders’ in their last two games, both without Jefferson.
Miami is also dealing with a ton of guys who aren’t 100 percent right now and are game time decisions for this game. The Heat have struggled on the offensive end of late, scoring 100 points or more just once in their last nine games overall. Keep in mind also that these two teams have faced off three times this season and none of those games has went higher than this game total in this one.
