7-Unit Play. #955. Take Over 7.5 Runs Colorado vs. San Francisco (Monday @ 4:35pm est) We roll with an early over this afternoon between these two teams in what should be a relatively high scoring game. Both these pitchers have not faced the other team which typically does not bode well for offense, but that is likely not the case here. Note that Colorado has scored at least 5 runs in each of its first 6 games of the season coming off back to back losses. They start Eddie Butler, who won 5-4 against the Brewers in his last start but was a bit fortunate considering he gave up 4 walks in that start. He faces a Giants team that comes off losing 3 straight to San Diego on the road and who is itching to get back on track offensively and what better way to do it against Butler who comes off a win but is in for a perfect let down spot. The Giants offense desperately wants and needs ot get jump started and that likely happens here as this team begins their season opener this afternoon. Combine that with the Giants sending Heston to the mound who helped his team 5-2 in his first contest being called up from Triple A which was a success, look for him to have a let down here as well against a Rockies team that comes off back to back losses themselves. You have two pitchers both in for let downs, two offenses that are likely to do well here as once comes off back to back losses and the other returns home after getting swept on the road in San Diego. The Over is 6-1-1 for the Rockies as an Underdog and 12-3-1 when they face a right hander as well and note that the Over is 10-4 for the Giants as a home favorite of -110 to -150 as well.
Pineda was sharp in his first outing of the season (6 inn, 6 K and 1 BB, with 2 ER’s allowed), but what impressed me the most was his ‘changeup’, a pitch that at times looked downright filthy. Pineda has always been known as a fastball/slider guy, but it’s pretty clear that he’s developing his ‘changeup’ to be an excellent pitch as well. Orioles will probably feature 4/5 lefties against him tonight, and if Pineda continues to throw his changeup effectively, I believe he should be able to neutralize this Orioles lineup. Wei-Yin Chen has a 5.0 ERA in his career against the Yankees and he allowed 15 hits and 2 BB’s in his 11 innings against them last year. He had control issues in his first start of the season and will take on a veteran Yankees lineup that ranks 5th so far in BB% on the year. I like NY’s chances in this one.
