To say this is a big series for the Kansas City Royals would be an understatement. The Royals still don't feel like they get the respect they deserve after winning the American League pennant last season. All they've done so far this year is start this season out with the best record in the American League right now and hold the top run differential in all of baseball also. Veteran Chris Young takes the hill for KC tonight and the soon to be 36 year-old seems to have got some more life back in his arm this season. Young is throwing harder this season then he did last season, a year in which he won the American League Comeback Player of the Year award for Seattle. This is the type of pitcher who could give this Tigers offense fits. Young has faced these Tiger hitters a combined 45 times in his career and their hitting just .145 off of him. Being an extreme fly ball pitcher, Young should be helped out playing in KC and having the top defensive outfield in MLB behind him.

The Tigers counter here with left-hander Kyle Lobstein in this one. Lobstein is starting because of the early season injury situation with Justin Verlander. This is a very average starter at best as Lobstein comes in with a 3.50 ERA and has caught his fair share of breaks so far this season as he's struck out just 10 hitters and walked 8 in 18 innings of work. He's also benefited in a big way from facing the Cleveland Indians in two of his three starts so far this season, a team who struggles against LHP with all of their left-handed hitters. Things get a lot tougher here for Lobstein here as he faces a red hot Royals offense who come in leading all teams this season when facing left-handers. Lobstein's velocity is also down quite a bit from last season which is alarming considering he was already a soft tosser to begin with. The Tigers started out red hot early on but have went just 4-6 their last ten games and been outscored by an ugly 62-36 margin in those games.
