dime bet – 966 DET (-148) vs 965 KAN
Analysis: I’m laying the price with the Tigers on Saturday. This one has pitching mismatch written all over it. The Tigers have owned Jeremy Guthrie over the years (162 hits in 128 1/3 IP) and it looks as though this season is no different. Detroit rocked Guthrie just a few days ago, while Anibal Sanchez retired the first 15 Royals batters he faced in the same game. Sanchez has normally pitched well in April and May, but suffered two bad outings in his first three starts this season. Sanchez has since righted the ship, though, posting a 3.05 ERA with 18 strikeouts in his last three starts, spanning 20 2/3 IP. Sanchez is 6-2 in eight starts against the Royals, posting a 1.40 ERA. We should note that current KC batters are hitting just .222 against Sanchez, while current Tiger batters are a sizzling .296 against Guthrie. Alex Avila and Miguel Cabrera have a combined six home runs and 22 RBI against the KC righty. Detroit has roughed-up pitchers in daytime action ranking #1 in OBP, #1 in home runs, #2 in team batting average, and #3 in OPS. It’s hard to imagine Guthrie finding the “sweet elixir” in this one. Detroit enters on a 14-4 run against pitchers with a WHIP above 1.30. They’re 11-3 when Sanchez throws on five days rest and on a 5-0 run when the righty faces KC. I’m backing the Tigers, my Daytime Dominator. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.
