4-Unit Play. Take #960 Atlanta -125 over Milwaukee (Thursday, May 21st at 7:10 p.m.)
I love this spot for the Bravos. Teheran has been very good at home so far this season and Latos hasn't had any luck on the road -- including getting absolutely hammered in his last start. This past Saturday at the Mets, Latos lasted only 3.1 innings and allowed 10 hits and 10 earned runs -- Ten Earned Runs. Garza is 2-5 with a 5.72 era for the year. He is an emotional pitcher and he wears his emotions on his sleeves. Having said that, his confidence is shot and I look for the Braves to take advantage of that tonight. Teheran is 2-0 at home with a 2.04 era and he has had very good success vs the Brew Crew in the past. He has started three games vs Milwaukee and he has an era of 1.69 in those outings including a complete game 6-hit shutout at home last May. The Braves have a huge advantage on the bump tonight and I am rolling with the Braves at home.
7 Unit Play. Take #957 Los Angeles Dodgers -125 @ over San Francisco Giants (3:45 PM, Thursday, May 21st) The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Giants when they finish up their three game set at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Thursday. Not only have they lost the first two games of this series but they were swept there earlier in the season and now will turn to Clayton Kershaw to try and break the five game skid. Kershaw has been lights out against the Giants in his career, going 14-6 with a 1.51 ERA in 26 starts, including an 8-2 record with a 0.97 ERA at AT&T Park. He has been even better than those numbers recently, posting a 7-2 record in his last 12 starts against the Giants, including two complete game shut-outs. The Giants will counter with their ace, Madison Bumgarner, who has been just as good against the Dodgers as Kershaw has been against the Giants. He is 8-3 with a 1.93 ERA over his last twelve starts against LA, including a 1-0 record with 1.88 ERA in two starts this season. Despite their recent struggles against the Giants, we like the spot the Dodgers are in here this afternoon. They are 9-2 in their last 11 games after losing the first two games of a series and are 11-3 in games where Kershaw is on the mound against teams with a winning record dating back to last season. Throw in the fact that the Dodgers are an excellent 40-18 in Kershaw’s last 58 games when they are listed as the favorite and we’ll lay the small price with them on the road to get the win and break their five game losing streak at AT&T Park.
5 Unit Play. Take #954 New York Mets -115 @over St. Louis Cardinals (1:10 PM, Thursday, May 21st) The Mets will be looking to salvage a split in their four game series with the Cardinals when the two teams meet this afternoon at Citi Field in New York. The Mets were rolling along, leading the NL East by 5.5 games at one point but they have gone 3-7 in their last 10 games, allowing the Nationals to take over first in the division. We like them to turn it around after two blowout losses to St Louis behind a guy who would be the ace of the staff if not for Matt Harvey. Jacob deGrom will get the start for the Mets and he has been excellent thus far in 2015. He is 3-3 on the season with a 3.21 ERA but he has allowed just one run in two of his last three starts and was probably his best the last time out, shutting down the Brewers over six innings en route to the win. He will be opposed by Jamie Garcia, who will be making his first start of the season for the Cardinals. Garcia has only made 16 starts over the past two seasons due to shoulder injuries and we expect the Cards to be a bit cautious with him since it’s his first time out. Despite their struggles the past two nights, the Mets have been very good in the spot they are in here this afternoon. They are 18-6 in their last 24 home games dating back to last season and are an excellent 9-2 in the last 11 games started by deGrom at Citi Field. The Cardinals, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the role we find them in here as they are just 1-4 in their last 5 games following a win. Throw in the fact that Jacob deGrom seems to pitch his best at home (4-1 w/ a 1.42 ERA in 5 starts) and we’ll take the Mets at the pick em’ price to get back on track and earn the split with the Cardinals.
