Game: New York Yankees (971) @ Minnesota Twins (972)
Time: Sunday 07/26 2:10 PM Eastern
Pick: New York -119 (moneyline) at sportsbetting
After Saturday’s 8-5 win, the Yankees improved to 13-5 in July. This offense has been strong all season, ranked second in baseball in runs scored. New York is on a 5-1 run, 8-2 in their last 10 games as chalk. Hard throwing Nathan Eovaldi (9-2) goes for the Bronx Bombers, and the Yankees are 7-1 when he is a favorite. While New York is ninth in baseball in on-base percentage on offense, Minnesota ranks 24th. The Twins took the first game of the series 10-1 on Friday, but are losers of five of eight since the All-Star break. Twins starter Kyle Gibson was ripped by the Angels his last start for six runs and 10 hits in five innings. Gibson has not had much success against New York, going 1-2 with 17 runs allowed and 22 hits in 12+ innings. The Twins are 8-20 when Gibson faces a team with a winning record, and New York is 41-15 vs Minnesota, so jump on the visitors. Play the New York Yankees.
Play on Game #967/968 Baltimore/Tampa Bay OVER the TOTAL (2:10 PM EST)
I think this Total of 7 runs is a little too low with these pitchers on the mound. Chen has a 12K/ 5 BB mark vs. the Rays this season. He has allowed 17 hits in 17.1 IP. So I'm expecting the Rays to reach base off of him and manufacture runs. Moore has been terrible for the Rays since returning to the rotation. Yes, he has a 7.23 ERA in his 4 starts this season with a 11K/10 BB mark. Neither pitcher strikes out a lot of guys and neither is known for going deep into games, thus I expect the bullpens to be called on early in this one. Moore's last start vs. the Orioles was in 2013, but he gave up 12 hits and 9 runs. Current members of the Orioles are hitting .327 vs. him. Current members of the Rays are hitting .282 vs. Chen.
I know both offenses have been struggling as of late. I also know the UNDER is 2-0 in this series. I will note though that the OVER is 3-1-1 in the Orioles L5 during Game 3 of a series and the OVER is 4-1-2 in the Orioles L7 during game 3 of a series. The OVER is 5-1 in Chens L6 road starts vs. the Rays and the OVER is 4-0-1 in Moore's L5 home starts with the total set at 7-8.5 Take the OVER!
Play on Game #953/954 Wash/Pitt UNDER the TOTAL (2:35 PM EST)
Joe Ross for the Nationals has a 27K/ 2 BB mark on the season now in 4 starts, including an 11K/ 1 BB outing vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 19th. The rookie has excellent command and will be facing one of the NL's best in Gerrit Cole for Pittsburgh as I expect this to be a true pitcher's duel. In 2 career starts vs. the Nationals, Cole has a 2.08 ERA and the UNDER is 2-0. Cole has a 1.96 ERA in day games this season and I look for this one to end with a final score in the 3-2 range on Sunday. Take the UNDER!
Play on Game #952 NY Mets w/ DeGrom (1:10 PM EST)
I like the Mets here as a homedog. DeGrom is the Mets ace this year and I think the situation favors him against Greinke. Greinke had his scheduled start pushed back as he had to fly back to LA for the birth of his child. I have to think that this threw him out of his normal routine and I also think he will have some other thoughts floating in his head while on the mound. Greinke hasn't allowed a run in 6 starts now and I don't like betting against stats like this, but naturally he is due for a bad start. DeGrom for the Mets has a 0.90 WHIP on the season and a 20K/ 3 BB for the month of July. He has a 1.67 ERA at home so we are getting a pitcher that can be completely dominant as well as a homedog.
The Mets are 12-4 on Sundays this season, including 4-0 in DeGrom's L4 Sunday starts and are 23-9 in Day games. The Mets are also 4-0 in DeGrom's L4 starts vs. the NL West and getting them as a homedog is a bargain in this game. The offense has momentum after smacking around the Dodgers last night for 21 runs. Take the Mets!
St. Louis has won 11 of the last 12 games when playing as a favorite of -175 to -250 and they have won 56 of the last 88 games vs. NL East Division Opponents. St. Louis has won 42 of the last 70 games when playing on a Sunday and they have won 75 of the last 127 games coming off two or more UNDER
the totals.
