So much for Houston. Time to pony up for the Royals.
Wayne Root Pinnacle
Kansas City Royals{J. Cueto} (-135) over Houston Astros {C. McHugh} 7:07 PM (EDT) -- Ewing M. Kauffman Stadium It''s youth vs experience. Houston is too young to win this elimination game and Kansas City is too experienced to lose it. The Royals have won nine of their past 10 elimination games, and now have momentum on their side after that improbable comeback Monday. Additionally, it''s difficult to match a previous great performance. Collin McHugh threw a gem in winning the series opener for the Astros. McHugh allowed two runs - both on homers by Kendrys Morales - and six hits over six innings of superb pitching despite almost a hour rain delay. The Astros have been a bust all year long on the road. They''ve only won 33 games away from Minute-Maid Park. This isn''t their only melt-down this season. They blew a solid division lead and were forced to win a play-in game as a Wild Card team. Speaking of blowing a game, the Royals forced the decider at Kauffman Stadium by rallying from a four-run deficit in the eighth inning Monday at Houston. How do the get up for a Game 5? It won''t be easy. For the Royals, Johnny Cueto was an All-Star a year ago with Cincinnati, and finished second in Cy Young voting in the National League. He gives batters fits. The Royals have been here before and look for them to grab this game and move on. TAKE KANSAS CITY
The Houston Astros will look to advance to their first League Championship Series since 2005 when they were a member of the National League when they take on the Royals in a winner take all Game 5 in the ALDS at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Colin McHugh, who has pitched very well for the Astros this season, will get the start for them on Wednesday night. He posted a 19-7 record with a 3.89 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 32 starts here in 2015 and he comes into the game tonight with a 7-0 record in his last eight starts.
McHugh will be opposed by Johnny Cueto, who was acquired by the Royals at the deadline from the Reds to be the ace the staff needed to win the World Series but things haven’t quite worked out as planned for Cueto and the Royals. He has gone just 4-7 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 13 starts since the trade and he is an even worst than that in his career in the postseason, going 0-2 with an ERA of 5.52 in four playoff starts. The Astros, who got into the playoffs on the last day of the season, have been very good in the spot they are in here tonight. They have posted a perfect 7-0 record in their last seven games after they allowed five or more runs in their previous contest and they are a lights out 14-3 in McHugh’s last 17 starts where he faced a team with a winning record.
The Royals, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the situation we find them in here tonight as they have gone just 2-6 in their last eight home games against a team with a losing record on the road and they have lost five games in a row following a day off. Throw in the fact that the Astros have gone 9-4 in their last 13 head to head meetings with the Royals and we’ll take them at the underdog price to bounce back from a tough Game 4 loss and advance to the ALCS, giving us a winner in our 8-Unit MLB Playoff Game of the Year!
