At 4:05 pm, our selection is on the Toronto Blue Jays over the Kansas City Royals.
What a difference we saw in games #3 and #4 of the ALCS here in Toronto compared to the first two games in Kansas City. On Monday night, the Jays exploded for nine runs in the first three innings and then had to hold off a furious late charge by the Royals. Then last night the Royals plated 14 runs in a rout right here in Toronto to come one win away from the AL Title. Compare this to the pitcher-dominated games in Kansas City to start the series and you have quite a contrast. Unfortunately for the Royals, they're 0-4 this season after scoring 18+ runs combined in their previous two games. And they scored 1, 1, 1 and 2 runs in those four games. Meanwhile, Toronto is 7-2 its last nine after giving up 10+ runs in its previous game. As we head into the fifth game today, both teams will turn back to their game one starters as the Jays go with RHP Marco Estrada while the Royals hand the ball back to RHP Edinson Volquez, who's 0-2 with a 6.10 ERA in two career starts at Rogers Centre. Although Estrada lost game one in KC, he didn't pitch badly, as he allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings while he struck out six Royals without a walk. And prior to that Game 1, Estrada had a 0.63 WHIP over his previous three starts (Volquez' WHIP over his previous three prior to Game 1 was 1.41). Moreover, Estrada has done his best work this season at home as he's posted a 2.95 ERA in 16 games here (vs. 3.29 in 18 games elsewhere). The Jays need another win (actually, three more wins) to stay alive. Take the Jays in this "must-win" game. As always, good luck...
