The Patriots are going to be very difficult to beat in this spot and are clearly the best team in the league right now. Tom Brady is operating at a different level with a passing offense that is generating an average of 327 passing yards at 7.4 yps against teams that allow 255 passing yards at 6.4 yps. He’ll face a below average Miami defense that is allowing 6.5 yps to teams that average 6.1 yps and as a result I expect Brady to continue his amazing play. While Miami has played much better the past two weeks since Dan Campbell took over, it’s important to remember who the Dolphins beat: the Texans and the Titans, two of the worst teams in the league right now. This is a huge step up in class and on a short week with little prep time and travel, Miami is going to have a difficult time keeping up in this game.
Miami will need to rely on their resurgent run game that is averaging 118 rushing yards at 5.6 ypr against teams that allow 110 rushing yards at 4.4 ypr to control the clock and score points. Much like the Jets last week, if they implement a ball control offense and can grind out yards against a Pats defense that can be run on, they may have a shot at keeping this one within the number.
I don’t have any situations in play but my model favors the Patriots by 12.0 points. I’ll lean with the Pats.

Resurgent is the word coming out of south Florida after the past two weeks. After putting up 82 points their last two games that is appropriate. But more than that is that their defense is finally happy getting rid of their coordinator. He should have been let go last season. They've gone from 1 sack to 10 sacks. They dropped the average defensive rush numbers from 160 to about 75 yards per game. Yes this is a short sample but the Dolphin players don't care. Much about winning is attitude. The other part is about technical changes on both sides of the ball. The Patriots are incredible. We all realize that. Including the oddsmakers. The New England backers will pay a huge premium betting on them. Vegas oddsmakers are having trouble making the line high enough. So they continue to raise the pointspread. There are some added injuries to the Patriots that may affect the betting number. Especially with a short week of preparation. Look for a new aggressiveness with Miami and a sixty minute strong performance by the fish.
