Tuesday’s ‘College Basketball Plays’
3-Unit Play. #737 Take Monmouth (+8.5)
over Georgetown (7:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 15)
The Hoyas haven’t really made waves so far this year, so I think this number is a bit too steep. G-Town has gone 0-3 ATS their last three games as a heavy favorite, and I see them having enough trouble getting the victory before they even try winning this game by double digits. This Monmouth team already has covers against Dayton and UCLA and outright upset wins over USC and Notre Dame, and I don’t know why they can’t add Georgetown to the list.
3-Unit Play. #722 Take Georgia Tech (-1.5)
over VCU (9 p.m., Tuesday, December 15)
This isn’t quite the VCU team of recent years. Shaka Smart is at Texas and the Rams will take a small step backwards this year. Conversely, this Georgia Tech team is a squad that is improved and playing like they are an underdog with something to prove in 2015. The number is a bit short all things considered, and I like the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta tonight.
3-Unit Play. Take Louisiana Lafayette/UCLA ‘Under’ 168.5
(9 p.m., Tuesday, December 15)
While ULL has being scoring at a high clip this year, the Cajuns have racked up wins and numbers against a bunch of joke schools. UCLA isn’t about to let this Sun Belt school come into Westwood and let them set the tempo. The Bruins are also coming off an upset win at Gonzaga, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were in a bit of a letdown spot coming out going through the motions. Play the ‘under’ as I see these two staying well under a pretty high number.
