Portland is completely healthy coming into this game, and it's rare for a team to have a clean injury sheet like this. That is one of the big reasons we like the Trail Blazers tonight. They are just the more complete team in this matchup. Derrick Favors is one of Utah's best players, and he is questionable tonight and won't play full minutes even if he does take the court. His near-17 points per game is missed, and this team has struggled to score even more than normal without him. Portland has been playing very well on offense the last couple games and I think they will be able to score on this Utah defense tonight. They come in well rested with two nights off (Portland is 6-1 ATS with two or more days of rest) and they will be playing with a lot of confidence after knocking OKC off last time out.

over Ohio State

The Scarlet Knights arepretty pathetic. But this is a young Ohio State team and I don’t know that theyare good enough to cover numbers like this consistently. The Buckeyes gotblasted by Indiana over the weekend (another winning ticket for us) and Saturdaythey head to Maryland to 1-Unit Play. Take on the Terps. In between they haveto deal with a game that absolutely no one is excited about. A 16-point win forthem is just as good as a 25-point win so I’ll 1-Unit Play. Take theh pointsand look for the former.
1-Unit Play. Take #529 St. Joseph’s (-5.5)
over George Mason
(7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
The two strangest thingsthat happened in the nonconference portion of the season this year was A)Syracuse winning the Battle 4 Atlantis (they are awful) and George Mason nearlywinning the tournament in Charleston. George Mason is a train wreck. They havelost three straight and other than making some shots late to make it lookrespectable against Davidson they haven’t even been close. St. Joseph’s is oneof the top teams in the Atlantic 10 and an NCAA Tournament-caliber team. Ifthey are good enough to win at Richmond, Temple, and Columbia they are goodenough to beat a bad Mason team.
2-Unit Play. Take #534 Richmond (-13)
over LaSalle
(7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
The favorite has coveredfour in a row and five of six in this series and I think that trend willcontinue. LaSalle is coming off a really surprising upset win over Dayton overthe weekend. But that game was a total fluke. And this is a team that had lostby seven straight before that random win. Richmond has had a tough go of itlately. But they have been the victim of a tough schedule more than poor play.They rung up 93 points on Fordham on Sunday in a game we cashed in on, and thatwas the same Fordham team that beat LaSalle last week.
1-Unit Play. Take #536 VCU (-13)
over Fordham
(7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
The Rams have won sixstraight and covered the spread in four straight and I think it will be more ofthe same here. VCU hasn’t played at home since their 24-point thrashing ofGeorge Mason and I think they can do the same here. Fordham is better. Butthat’s only because they have been one of the worst programs in college hoopsfor the past decade. They have played a cupcake schedule to this point and theyare swimming way out of their depth here.
1-Unit Play. Take #539 Houston (+10)
over Cincinnati
(7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
I really like thisHouston team and I think that they are going to be able to hang around with theBearcats here. Cincinnati has actually lost two of its last three at home andthey have really slowed down (5-5) after a perfect November. Houston has wonfive in a row and they are legit. Look for another big game from their veteranbackcourt, led by explosive Rob Gray, and I think that Houston can hit enoughshots in this one to only lose by 4-6 points.
1-Unit Play. Take #550 Memphis (-6)
over Temple
(8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
Temple is as shaky as ateam gets. They can win at Cincinnati and at Connecticut but then also can loseby 27 at home against Houston. You can’t make heads or tails of this team andthey are either going to win this game outright or lose by double-digits. I’mgoing with the latter. Memphis has played well, even in its five losses, andthis is a huge game for them. This is a big season for Josh Pastner and I thinkthat the Tigers are going to be really tough at home. I think Memphis isdesperate for big wins and desperate to put on a good show for the home crowd.I think they do both tonight against an erratic Owls group.

over Penn State
(8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
The last time theBoilermakers were in a bounce back situation they won by 17 over Michigan.Prior to that? They followed their first loss of the season with a 13-point winover Vanderbilt. Those two teams are much, much better than the Nittany Lions.Penn State’s last two losses have been by 23 points (to Michigan) and 27 points(to Michigan State). That will take some wind out of your sails. I think Purduerolls again here.
1-Unit Play. Take #563 Florida State (+2)
over N.C. State
(9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
I just don’t think thatN.C. State is any good. I said that at the start of the year when I tabbed themthe No. 1 most overrated team in the Top 25. (That anyone ever thought this wasa Top 25 team is a joke.) Yes, they have had three straight close losses. Butthe Wolfpack also don’t have a single good win on their resume this season. Ithink that the wrong team is favored in this one and I don’t think FloridaState is going to continue to spiral downhill.
1-Unit Play. Take #565 Wake Forest (+1)
over Virginia Tech
(9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
I don’t understand thereasoning behind this line at all. The Hokies have won their last two homegames, but the have also been blown out twice in their last four games. So theyare all over the map. But that’s because this isn’t a very talented orexperienced squad. Wake Forest has some really good wins this year and no badlosses. This is a young team, but one that also has a pair of senior anchors inDevin Thomas and Codi Miller-McIntyre. These guys have shown an ability to playwell and win on the road over the past two seasons and I think that talent isgoing to win out over the home court.
1-Unit Play. Take #571 Wyoming (-4)
over San Jose State
(10 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13)
Wyoming is pathetic onthe road. But they aren’t this bad. San Jose State is not a D-I caliberprogram. They are a joke. I cashed a ticket against them with Utah State acouple weeks ago using pretty much the exact same rationale; the Cowboys arebad – but they aren’t that bad! This number should’ve been at least 6.5.
