Pinnacle--Indiana + ***MM Round 2 Game of Year This should be one of the best matchups of the second round, and this game will mean a lot to both long-time rivals who haven’t played each other during the past couple of years. Indiana’s efficient offense can put up a lot of points. One of the places where Indiana has a clear statistical advantage is on the offensive glass. With big men like Thomas Bryant and Max Bielfeldt as well as athletes like Anunoby and Troy Williams attacking the glass, Indiana rebounds 37.6 percent of its misses, the 15th-best mark in America. The Hoosiers’ perimeter shooting wears down teams, and this is a team that isn’t easy to defend. Yogi Ferrell and Troy Williams can get to the bucket at will, just about everyone on the court can knock down the open three, and Thomas Bryant and Max Bielfeldt can control the glass with their strength and size. As long as IU doesn’t have an off shooting night, limits turnovers and doesn’t lose focus on defense, Indiana is going to have a shot to move to the Sweet 16. The Hoosiers can overpower Labissiere, Marcus Lee, and Alex Poythress and generate a lot of second and third chances they will win this game.

7-Unit Play. Take #528 Kansas -8 over Connecticut (Saturday, March 19 at 7:45 PM ET)
Take Kansas ATS as my 7-Unit CBB Smash for Saturday night. This pick falls into one of my top CBB systems and I have Kansas winning this game by 20+ points so there is great line value here tonight. The Jayhawks are the best or second best team in this tournament, so there will be no let down tonight or let up in these guys tonight, especially after watching some good teams get knocked off yesterday. The Jayhawks are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games overall and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games. The Jayhawks are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and they are perhaps the most tested team in the NCAA Tournament. Kansas is the 4th best shooting team in the country and those stats were gained against very tough opponents, and they are the 3rd best 3-point shooting team in the country knocking down 42.5% from beyond the arc. Play Kansas ATS with extreme confidence as this one should be a 20-point rout.

4-Unit Play. Take #529 Indiana +4 over Kentucky (Saturday, March 19 at 5:15 PM ET)
Take Indiana ATS as my 4-Unit CBB Smash for Saturday afternoon. This pick falls into one of my top CBB systems and I have Indiana winning this game outright against a highly over-rated Kentucky team. The Hoosiers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games when playing a team with a win rate above .600. The Wildcats are just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games and they will have their hands full against the #2 shooting team in the country. Play Indiana ATS with confidence.

4-Unit Play. Take #519 Yale +6.5 over Duke (Saturday, March 19 at 2:40 PM ET)
Take Yale ATS as my 4-Unit CBB Smash for Saturday afternoon. This pick falls into one of my top CBB systems and Yale actually has a very good shot at winning this game outright. This is a very disciplined Yale team that shoots 37.2% from beyond the arc and 47.3% overall as a team. Yale is also very good defensively with opponents shooting just 40.8% against them this season and they are a very confident team right now. Duke was the #4 seed in this NCAA Tournament and they get upset by Yale today as they are the better team in this situation. The Bulldogs are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 neutral site games and 15-5-3 ATS in their last 23 games when playing a team with a winning record. Duke is 0-7 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after failing to cover the spread in their previous game. Duke struggles big time defensively and that will cost them the game against a very good shooting Yale team. Play Yale ATS with confidence.

7-Unit Play. Take #533 Gonzaga pk over Utah (Saturday, March 19th at 8:40 p.m.)
My spreadsheet has Gonzaga winning this game by a final score of 82-72. The key components in this matchup are frontline players and coaching.
I will be the first to admit that I was skeptical about this Gonzaga team this season. Having said that, the proof is in the pudding. They dismantled a hot Seton Hall team and completely got the Pirates out of their gameplan from the opening tip. They shut down Whitehead and forced Seton Hall to find alternative scoring -- it didn't happen. I look for a similar coaching display tonight when the Zags face off with Utah. The Utes have a big guy, Poeltl, that their offense runs through on a lot of occasions. That's a huge problem as he isn't even close to being as skilled as Sabonis. On top of that, Sabonis is playing with a ton of emotion as his college career nears its completion. Wiltjer is due for a big game and I could certainly see that happening tonight. The Gonzaga guards are actually playing a lot better than anyone anticipated as of late. They seem to have matured throughout the season and they are making big plays when needed. However, make no mistake about it -- this offense runs through Sabonis and/or Wiltjer. They will be nightmare matchups for the Utes. Poeltl is nowhere near as athletic or skilled as Sabonis and I can see him getting in early foul trouble in this one. Regardless, he has a long night ahead of him.
I love this matchup for the Zags.
                Take Gonzaga.
                Best of luck -- Mike

5 Unit Play. #529 Take Indiana +4 over Kentucky (5:15 pm CBS) This is just too many points for a pick'em game. Kentucky is not as strong as they have been the last two years especially on the defensive side of the floor. Indiana has just as much talent as does Kentucky and this could be a landmark win for Coach Tom Crean and company. If Indiana wins this game the Hoosier faithful will finally embrace Tom Crean and I just do not see them getting blown out in this game. Indiana is 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games against teams with a winning record. Kentucky is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 nonconference games. The value lies in Red.
4 Unit Play. #543 Take Louisiana Lafayette -2 over Furman (2 pm) The Paladins needed a miracle finish to beat ULM but their luck is going to run out in this game. Once Davidson left the Southern Conference it become one of the bottom conferences in the country and thus a team from the Sun Belt should have no problem beating them. The Ragin Cajuns took UALR to the brink last week and we saw how good the Trojans are by beating Purdue. 70% of the money is coming in on ULL and that is with good reason.

                            3 Over Mia Fla

TODAY’S “3 UNIT” REDZONE NCAA BEST BET TOTAL (Wichita State versus Miami-Florida OVER 128’ in a 12:15 eastern tipoff televised on CBS): At the bottom of this analysis a pair of UNDEFEATED angles along with a discussion on two VETERAN backcourts. Regular clients are aware that in the totals category yesterday I took advantage of so many “unders” that had been produced by various Missouri Valley Conference teams dating back to the beginning of their postseason conference tournament. Last night Northern Iowa snapped that trends going OVER the total with relative ease and I am looking for more of the same today involving the Missouri Valley especially due to the recent SCHEDULE that their entrant has had to endure which in my mind will lead to “tired defensive legs”. Wichita State participated in an NCAA “play in” game back on Tuesday in a game that did not end until just short of midnight and then the next day boarded a plane (from Dayton to Providence). On Thursday the Shockers were involved in a “late” game and today a very quick turnaround as they participate in the “earliest” window of the Saturday Big Dance card. Since Wichita State checks in having gone a massive 11-2 “under” the total in the past thirteen games (including five straight) we have market-value with the total which has “dropped” from the opening offshore figure of 131-and-a-half points. As mentioned at the top of this analysis both sides in today’s game have VETERAN BACKCOURTS including the Shockers proven postseason duo of Fred Van Fleet and Ron Baker. On a smaller scale nationally Miami-Florida gets to showcase Angel Rodriguez and Sheldon McClellan who are some of the personnel that have come over as transfers from other programs and thrived. On the entire season to date when facing excellent defenses (allow on average 42-or-less percent shooting) Miami-Florida has gone 6-0 OVER in ROAD games such as this. In the past three seasons after a game where the offense dished out 9-or-less assists Wichita State also is 6-0 OVER if the game is being played on the ROAD

520 Duke -6.0 (-110) Greek vs 519 Yale Analysis: Don't get caught overthinking this matchup. Yale is Yale and Duke is Duke.

What does that mean? Yale is a smart, fundamentally sound team that upset Baylor on Thursday because of those traits. This is heady stuff for Yale winning its first NCAA Tournament game ever.

But Yale is not going to be able to exploit those traits against Duke, which not only plays smart, too, but has big edges in talent, size and big-game experience. The Bulldogs made an amazing 21 of 33 (64 percent) shots from 2-point range against the Bears getting good looks most of the time because of patience and crisp ball movement. Duke is far better defensively. The Blue Devils know Yale's style. Tactics aren't going to work for the Bulldogs. It's going to be talent versus talent - and Duke easily wins that battle and the war.

These teams actually met back on Nov. 25 at Duke. Yale hung in for a half, but the Blue Devils figured things out back then and won, 80-61. Amile Jefferson no longer is in Duke's rotation like he was for that game. But this is all part of the Duke is Duke mantra, which is reserves who would be excellent starters on many teams.

The Blue Devils have a stockpile of young talent that is emerging at just the right time, including 7-footer Marshall Plumlee, who can be very effective against the undersized Bulldogs. The Blue Devils have a history of peaking just at the right time. They were 7-1 SU and ATS in post-season tournaments last year in capturing the national championship.
