Analysis: MAY get a better # later as people think Cleveland can't lose again. I obviously think they will. We've been fading Cleveland for a year against LHP's and the last time out Smyly threw with his left hand! Let's not forget that he was part (the centerpiece) of the David Price trade with the Tigers - and several years prior he was a Top 100 prospect. He can pitch "up" at times and Toronto took advantage of that the last time out, but that was Toronto - this is Cleveland - who hasn't seen him since 2014, so the few decent stats a few Indians have - in limited exposure, are not against the same pitcher (IMHO). And, the Rays CLEARLY have the better bullpen, as evidenced again last night. Everyone is throwing lefties at the Indians! They've already got 112 at bats against LHP this season (in less games than most teams) and are hitting .232 with three home runs. Carrasco didn't finish last year strong - and yes, he can strike people out - but if he's around the plate a lot, that's a good thing (IMO) against a team like the Rays who are pretty much free swingers. Boston lit him up at home this season in his first start - and April has been BY FAR his worst month over the last few years. Y Ñes, he almost threw a no-hitter in the Trop last season - which was a week or so after the Rays CRUSHED him in Cleveland - so, they know what he's all about and perhaps the RAYS have some revenge in mind here for getting humiliated at home. Since last year's All-Star break, the Rays have hit 99 jacks in 78 games - the Indians ERA from the 7th inning on is now 8.31 after last night. They Rays late inning ERA is 1.42 with a .182 batting average against. And lastly, the Indians are not "built" to play on turf - the Rays obviously are - so I see almost a carbon-copy of last nights' game.Comment
