The Mets got a little monkey off their back by beating the Pirates last night and snapping a 9 game losing streak to them. They haven't played so well since sweeping the Brewers last month going 6-8 since then. It could be difficult for the Mets to get much going offensively with the way Jimmy Nelson has pitched against them as he is coming into his own in his second full season in the bigs. Nelson is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA in three career starts against the Mets and he has allowed two runs or fewer in 9 of his 12 starts this season. He will be opposed by the ageless Bartolo Colon who continues to plug along and eat up innings for New York. Colon is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his last three starts and he has allowed 3 runs or fewer in all but one of his twelve starts this season. The under is 6-0 the last 6 times these teams have played in Milwaukee while the under is 5-1 in the Brewers last 6 home games versus a team with a winning record and the under is 5-1 in the Mets last 6 versus a team with a losing record. Neither team has been doing much offensively over their last 10 games so I see this game staying under.

There is a great deal of value in this selection and it comes because Pittsburgh played last night and then had to travel across the country to play this afternoon game in Colorado. However, the pitching matchup more than makes up for that bit of jet lag.
Locke has faced the Rockies in Colorado once this year and he shut them down. He pitched 6.0 innings allowing just 5 hits and 0 runs. He struck out 8 Colorado' batters in that start. He is 5-3 on the year with a 4.28 era. However, that era is inflated because of two really bad outings. Other than that, he has been fairly conistent and sometimes really good. Two starts ago, he pitched a 3-hit complete game shutout in Miami. I really like the left-hander in today's game. I look for him to be rock solid vs. this Rockies team. Colorado is batting just .242 against lefties vs. their .274 average against righties.
Colorado sends Chad Bettis to the mound and he has been getting lit up as of late. In fact, he has allowed 17 earned runs in his last three starts. Seventeen. In total, he pitched 13.1 innings in those three starts and allowed a whopping 25 hits. I can kind of overlook the start in Boston three starts ago. However, the last two starts were against Cincy and San Diego. Ouch. He faced the Pirates once this year and he allowed 4 earned runs in 6.2 innings. That's not horrible but it was the same day that Locke shut down Colorado and the Pirates won 6-1. I look for much of the same today.
I love the value of this selection. The Pirates are 8-0 in their last 8 meetings in Colorado and I look for them to run that record to 9-0 today.
Take Pittsburgh.
