The New York City derby is renewed on Sunday as NYCFC host NY Red Bulls in a top three matchup in the Eastern Conference. NYCFC is coming off of two wins, while the Red Bulls are winless in their last two. NYCFC's home form has been the worst in the league, having only picked up two wins in nine matches, though the Red Bulls away form is worse with one win in nine, though the Red Bulls are winners of the last four derbies. This is the second matchup between these two teams this season with the Red Bulls crushing NYCFC 7-0 while tying the largest margin of victory in MLS history and scoring more goals in a match in team history. The Red Bulls star striker, Bradley Wright-Phillips, has scored 6 goals in his last five matches for nine on the season. Between these two teams, Wright-Phillips has scored in all four matches with six goals in total, and the Red Bulls hold a 14-2 lead in goals scored in those four matches. Sacha Kljestan leads the league with 10 assist for the Red Bulls and will be a key figure in this match as well. NYCFC come into this match with the league's leading scorer in David Villa, 11 goals, and Frank Lampard finally getting on the goal sheet with a goal in each of the last two matches. Though Lampard is finally scoring and Villa is leading the league in goals, these two standouts will not be enough for NYCFC to break its duck in the NY Derby. Red Bulls have their way once again and win 3-1.

In really what is not becoming a surprise, Iceland stormed back from an early goal via a penalty against England to win 2-1 in the first round to the knockout stages. At the start of the tournament very few outside the island nation predicted Iceland would be facing tournament favorites France in the round of 16. Iceland may not have done itself any favors by scoring in the dying moments of its final group stage match against Austria by scoring the winner and placing itself in the more difficult side of the knockout bracket, but after the performance against England, Iceland look posed to make more history against France. England took Iceland for granted and the French have shown during this tournament that they play to the level of their competition. Iceland have the ability to score and as well as lock down the defense when teams who are more talented try to breakdown a back four that play into a traditional English style 4-4-2. In Iceland's last match they were able to go on the counter-attack and get 5 of 8 shots on goal. This side is very disciplined and plays as they have nothing to lose, which they don't. France come back as well against Ireland as Griezmann placed the host nation on his back and dropped two goals on Ireland within three minutes. This tournament for France has been about late heart stopping goals that have lifted a nation with the hopes of a new golden age and more silverware. However, the performances this tournament have just not been respectable. The France team is playing as individuals who step up when needed, but at no point have they looked like a team that is in control of its own destiny. France should take a page out of the 'Do not do what England did' book and bring the match to Iceland early. But as we have seen, France is a slow starter and Iceland will capitalize on previous lackluster performances to shock the host and win 2-1.
