Each of the last two MLB All Star Games have seen eight runs or more, and I think we'll see Tuesday's contest fly over 7.5 runs as well. Petco Park has a reputation as a pitchers park, but we can note that the over is 26-17-2 with an average line of 7.4 in the Padres' home games this season.

This is obviously a contest set up for entertainment, and while pitchers' duels can be fascinating, the crowd prefers plenty of hits and homers. The MLB knows this, and both teams are set up with a focus on power in the lineup rather than defensive prowess. With the energy in San Diego these days we like the National League to finally step up and get it done this year. The National League have basically the Chicago Cubs lineup who have 4 starters playing today including Zobrist, Bryant, Rizzo and Russell. When you add Harper, Posey and Ozuna in the mix you have a very potent lineup with a pitching staff that is every bit as competent. In the end, it always comes down to motivation and the National League will be substantially motivated today which is why you are seeing them as a small favorite. Rememeber, the NL has plenty of veterans and not first time All-Stars with the likes of Cueto, Arrieta, Fernandez, Syndergaard and Scherzer. We like the National League to get it done here behind these arms and bats this evening.

Folks always thinks that games go under in the All-Star Game and each year you will see a rough total of 7.5 runs. And, the last two games this year has gone over including a 6-3 American League Win and a 5-3 AL Win as well for back to back wins. Combine that with the National League finally expected to breakout this year and win this year and consequently their offense is likely to put up a few runs and then you tack on the fact that you have an American League that always seems to keep pace and per the models have a much more likelihood of making a comeback if they get down early versus the National League. Hence, we like the NL to take an early lead and then the AL to make a comeback and consequently this game goes over as we have this as a 6-4 Final for the National League this year.
