3-Unit Play. #138. Take Wake Forrest -16.5 over Tulane (Thursday @ 7pm est) (Currently 16 at Westgate, CG Tech, Sportsbook)
Wake Forrest is a team that is going to be much better. This is a team that returns 15 starters including 8 on offense and 7 on defense. This is the same team that lost to Duke by 6 points at home to close out last year, lost to Clemson by 20 points on the road which is very impressive, lost to Louisville by just 1 point, lost to Florida State by 8 points, beat Boston College on the road and lost to Indiana by just 7 points. This is a team that is facing a Tulane squad that was decimated on defense consistently last year and that is likely much the same this year. We like Wake Forrest to turn the script and likely win with an easy victory this evening in what could very well be a blowout.
8-Unit Play. SEC Goty. #142. Take Vanderbilt -5 over South Carolina (Thursday @ 8pm est) (Currently -4 at CG Tech)
Indeed our big play in the SEC to open the College Football Season is Vanderbilt over South Carolina. Vanderbilt is a team that we are very high on and will be better this year. This is a team is going through a transformation as their coach Derek Mason is changing the culture of the program. Mason has a great track history for a coach as he was the Defensive Backs Coach under Jim Harbaugh back at Stanford. This is not to mention being Associate Head Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator under Coach David Shaw. Vanderbilt returns a stout 16 starters back including 8 on offense and 8 on defense as well as their punter and kicker. Compare that with South Carolina going through an entire coaching regime change and returning 5 starters on offense (8 on defense) and there is an advantage here for Vanderbilt. Plus, Vanderbilt has the advantage of revenge losing to this team by 9 points last year in the season opener. On top of that, This team beat Missouri on the road 10-3, beat Auburn on the road 17-13 (which put Malzahn firmly on the hot seat), beat Kentucky 21-17 last year on the road and lost to Florida by just 2 points - heck, they only lost to Ole Miss by 11 points as well. This team was slowly getting better and the signs were there for a turnaround this year and we are ready to take them here. With revenge, under the lights, Mason's kids take the next step as they face a coach that is still a bit overrated in Muschamp. This should be a great game but we like Vanderbilt in a defensive battle this evening.
2-Unit Play. #120. Take New Orleans -5 over Baltimore (Thursday @ 8pm est) (Currently -4.5 at MGM Mirage).
An NFL sprinkled in with the other College Football Selections today. Note, that New Orleans has yet to win a pre-season game and we like them to get their mojo back at little bit at home. With Baltimore already suffering some injuries in the preseason and Harbaugh coming out and lamenting a bit about the preseason rules, we like him to rest most of his starters if not even the second string at this point in frustration. With New Orleans losing by scores of 22-34 to New England, 9-16 to Houston and 14-27 to Pittsburgh, we like the Saints to value this game a bit more than Baltimore and to step up for a win. The Saints will look to carry some momentum in this game and we like them to win by a touchdown or more which is why this spread is relatively high here for a preseason game.
3-Unit Play. #144. Take Minnesota -13 over Oregon State (Thursday @ 9pm est)
Minnesota returns a solid crop of players including 7 on offense and 7 on defense. These two teams have no previous meetings between each other. The Gophers only posted 5 wins last year but this is a team that will be better. This team lost to Wisconsin by 10 points to close the year, lost to Ohio State by just 14 points on the road and only lost to Michigan by 3 points. This team was very young last year and we expect them to improve upon that this year and there is a reason why the Pac school of Oregon State is such a heavy underdog here on the road. We are not very high on the Oregon State Coaching Staff or the fact this team lost 3 key pieces on the defensive line last year and this game will be a battle in the trenches. Minnesota has a fantastic line and we believe they will be able to run the ball and therefore open up their passing game as well as frankly this could end up in a blowout. We have this game by a 3 touchdown margin.
