Third stringer QB Jacoby Brissett will likely be the starter against Houston and that means the Patriots will likely run the ball frequently with LeGarrette Blount looking for another solid performance. But neither side will dominate this game of the offensive side of the ball. This game will be won with defense.
Houston put on a dazzling defensive effort to stymie the Kansas City Chiefs by a 19-12 score to improve to 2-0 last Sunday. Look for more of the same. J.J. Watt was a force as usual, making 1.5 sacks with five tackles and he will make things difficult for the inexperienced Brissett in this one. The Texans defense has been dominant throughout their first two games, forcing two fumbles in week one, and forced three against the Chiefs, two of which were recovered. The Garoppolo injury is a killer, and I don’t think Brissett will be able to come in and be effective, especially not against the stifling Texans defense which has looked outstanding. Houston has only allowed two touchdowns through their first two games and two scores on Thursday with a short practice week will be pushing it for the Pats. Under normal circumstances, New England is not a great covering team as they are 1-5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Look for the Texans to get out of town with a rock solid win.
