7-Unit Play. Take #917 Detroit (-135) over Minnesota (8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22)
Well, here we have one of the best teams in the A.L. (Tigers) going up against one of the worst (Twins) with everything on the line for the visitors. Detroit is just one game out of the Wild Card and they have a chance to get a lead with a sweep in their doubleheader today. I think they will be able to do it. Justin Verlander has been one of the four or five best pitchers in baseball the last few months. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in more than 15 starts. And he has only done that twice. He threw a one-hit masterpiece his last time out and was a hard-luck loser against the Indians. He has lost two straight starts. But he hasn't lost three straight since May and that three-game team losing streak in his starts has only occurred once in his last 40 starts. In his last four starts against the Twins Verlander has a 1.96 ERA and in his career at Target Field he is 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA in eight starts, going an average of nearly seven innings per start. I seriously don't know what else we could ask for here. Minnesota is literally the worst team in the Majors and if they beat the Tigers and Verlander here then I don't know what to tell you.
