1-Unit Play. Take #505 Wichita State (-2) over Louisville (2:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
Here we have an unranked team favored over a ranked team. Louisville is going to give Wichita its best game yet. But the fact is that the Shockers are razor sharp right now and they are executing at a high level. Louisville has just been bigger and stronger than any of the teams that they have faced to this point. That won't be the case today.
2-Unit Play. Take #508 VCU (-6.5) over St. John's (7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
The Red Storm still aren't really packing a D-I caliber roster. They start two freshmen and two sophomores and these guys are going to have a letdown after taking on Michigan State last night. They weren't impressive in that game and I don't think things are going to be any easier against VCU's pressure defense today.
1-Unit Play. Take Florida State (-10) over Temple (12:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
FSU is by far the best team that Temple has faced in this early season. The Owls have already lost to New Hampshire and Massachusetts and they will dump this one at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Owls just aren't any good. Obi Enechionyia can play. But the rest of the team is spare parts and this is a clear rebuilding season for a team that I think will struggle just to get to the postseason. Florida State already hammered Iona and Winthrop, two teams that are probably better than Temple. The Seminoles have a pair of potential pros in Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Dwayne Bacon, and their best player may turn out to be freshman Jonathan Isaac. This is a team that is on the come. And I think that after dominating four weaker opponents at home they are hungry to beat someone up in a marquee tournament. FSU has been terrible in tournament settings the past two years. But the six years prior to that Leonard Hamilton's squads were known for opening strong in neutral site settings.
2-Unit Play. Take #513 Illinois (+9) over West Virginia (3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
This Illinois team is one of the most improved squads in the country. Yes, they are coming off a bad OT loss in a game where they came out flat. But this team has some high-end talent and a lot of depth. As long as they don't crumble under WVU's pressure - and Illinois has enough senior guards that I think they will be fine - this is a game I actually think they could win. I do see a WVU win. But I don't see a blowout here.
1-Unit Play. Take #520 Gonzaga (-26) over Quinnipiac (6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
1-Unit Play. FIRST HALF: Take #520 Gonzaga (-13.5) over Quinnipiac (6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
The Bulldogs are an absolute machine right now. They can name their own score in this one. Quinnipiac is not even one of the best teams in the NEC and they are way outclassed here. The Bobcats lost to Vermont by 24 points - at home - and they have only played one game in the past two weeks (a home loss to a bad Columbia team). This game is going to be a mismatch and I wouldn't be surprised to see Gonzaga win by 40.
2-Unit Play. Take #526 Virginia Tech (-3.5) over New Mexico (4:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
One thing you never have to worry about with Buzz Williams teams is effort. Virginia Tech is going to max out in this one and they have more talent to boot. I really like this New Mexico team; we've already cashed in with them. But this is a big step up in class and over the past few seasons they have really struggled against teams from power conferences. I think Virginia Tech's defense is going to be a little much for them and I think the Lobos could have a letdown after their easy rivalry win over NMSU last time out.
1-Unit Play. Take #536 Iona (-5.5) over Drake (9:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
1-Unit Play. Take #530 UCLA (-15) over Portland (11 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24)
2-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #512 Florida State (-5) over Temple AND Take #518 Miami (-1.5) over Stanford (3 p.m.)
1-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #521 Seton Hall (+7.5) over Florida (9 p.m.) AND Take #532 Butler (-3) over Vanderbilt (8 p.m.)
1-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #512 Florida State (-5) over Temple (12:30 p.m.) AND Take #532 Butler (-3) over Vanderbilt (8 p.m.)
