Matt Moore has not started a game in five years. And they come into New York to play the Jets as the favorite. There are many many Jets haters out there in public land. The public had their great wins of the season last week. Back to back would be rare for the public. When the betting trends approach 90%, the sharps and smarts want no part of joining the masses on those games. Moore has attempted just 35 passes since 2012. That could be a problem stretching a lead. The Jets' direction has long been established, but Saturday night represents a chance to play for their jobs, continue playing with a good defensive effort and to get revenge on the Dolphins while finding out what they have in new starting quarterback Bryce Petty. So they really do have a lot to play for as paid professionals. But nothing is more satisfying than knocking a playoff hopeful out of the chase. The Dolphins enter this week tied with the Denver Broncos for the final wild-card spot with three games remaining. Watch for the free spirit play of the Jets to get the win.

Standing 5 feet 9 and weighing 165 pounds, Donnel Pumphrey was not even considered for a trip to New York for last weeks Heisman award. And he is just over 100 yards from setting the all-time NCAA rushing record. They even asked an actual former Heisman winner what he thought of Pumphrey and he said he had never heard of him. With ESPN and YouTube highlights, that's inexcusable. We call that "west coast bias" out here. But west coast teams call it motivation. We are punished for starting Saturday night games at 10 pm est. Anyway, he will get the record. His teammates want this more than anything. Their opponent got a new coach on Major Applewhite and plenty of disruptions from the field to the Vegas Strip where this game is played. Pumphrey (6,290 yards) needs 108 yards to surpass Wisconsin's Ron Dayne (6,397) as the all-time leading career rusher in FBS history. This is now getting national attention because when contacted, Dayne who starred at Wisconsin from 1996-1999, said "They didn't use none of my bowl games." As for Houston, they opened the season with a 33-23 upset of eventual Big 12 champion Oklahoma. They also stunned then-No. 5-ranked Louisville and Heisman winner Lamar Jackson 36-10. But then the wheels came off and everything went by the wayside when they lost to Navy 46-40 midway through the season. Then Houston lost to SMU and Memphis and finished fourth (5-3) in the West Division of the American Athletic Conference. It's very hard to believe they will return to any prominence for a small bowl game with a recused coach and little to play for. We like the motivation for San Diego and our North Las Vegas product playing in front of his home town fans.
