The Cubs pulled out yet another come from behind win last night, tying the game with a three-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning. But they really should've blown the Reds out, as they put the first two runners on in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings and didn't score a run. They had guys on the bases all night but didn't punch through. I think they will today. Cody Reed is getting the spot start for the beleaguered Reds starting staff. He hasn't made a start yet this season but he was 0-7 with a 7.36 ERA in his 10 starts last year (the only 10 of his career). The Cubs are going with Jake Arrieta and he is a stud. He is 5-2 in his career against the Reds and the Cubs have won four of his last five starts against them. The Cubs are 16-5 in their last 21 games in Cincinnati and they are 35-17 in their last 52 games against the Reds.

3-Unit Play. Take #913 Miami (-125) over San Diego (8:40 p.m., Saturday, April 22)

I took it on the chin again yesterday thanks to the Padres. But I am not going to stop betting on them any time soon. Their lineup yesterday had five guys hitting .200 or worse this year. Five. They are pathetic. And their pitching staff is among the worst in baseball, right there with the White Sox and Reds (two other teams we are betting against today). Jered Weaver has posted back-to-back quality starts. But I don't expect that to continue. And he is 0-3 in his three starts this season. He is way, way past his prime and has an ERA near 5.00 over his last three years combined. Miami's lineup is stacked and whatever you think of Dan Straily he is still a better option than Weaver.

3-Unit Play. Take #917 Cleveland (-1.5, -110) over Chicago White Sox (7 p.m., Saturday, April 22)

Mike Pelfrey will get the start for the White Sox today. He is a career loser who was cut from the Tigers staff out of Spring Training thanks to a 7.94 ERA and .343 batting average against. In his two minor league starts this year he is 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA and has given up more walks and home runs (five) than he has strikeouts. He's gone all of six total innings in those two starts at Triple-A. Needless to say, I am not very high on his prospects today. Carlos Carrasco has been pretty good since coming back from injury last year and I expect another strong effort today. The Indians were outstanding last night in support of Corey Kluber and I think they lock up the series win today.

Ian Kennedy has been excellent so far this year. He has just a 1.05 WHIP and a 2.37 ERA in three starts. He has had hard luck and is 0-2 but he has been strong. I expect another good outing here today. Kennedy keeps the ball down and that should help him avoid giving up the home runs that the Royals were tagged for yesterday. Kansas City has gone 'under' in eight straight games and nine of 10. That is a solid streak to bet on and the Royals have one of the worst offenses in baseball. Texas has gone 'under' in four of its last five and six of its last eight games. This lineup is not nearly as strong as we have seen in years past. The 'under' is an amazing 21-4 in the last 25 meetings in this series. Four straight and eight of the last 10 have gone 'under'. Play 'under' here.

2-Unit Play. Take #929 New York Yankees (-105) over Pittsburgh (4 p.m., Saturday, April 22)

I think the Yankees will bounce back after their loss last night. That was a very close game until a late error broke it open. The Yankees have always been good in interleague play and they are 39-14 in their last 53 games against teams from the N.L. Central. The Yankees have won nine of 11 and they are still as hot as anyone in baseball. Michael Pineda has looked great so far this spring and that will continue today. The Pirates are without star centerfielder Starling Marte, who this week was suspended for 80 games. That is a blow to this offense. I think Pineda continues his hot start and this one should go to the Yankees.
