The Braves nipped the Rockies, 4-3, Tuesday night. Before that game, Atlanta had lost 11 in a row at Coors Field.
Look for the Braves to begin a new losing streak at Coors starting with today's game. The Braves have been looking more like the rebuilding team that they are. They're playing young players and still missing injured Matt Kemp. This is reflected in 16 losses in the Braves' past 22 games. The Rockies have their best pitcher, Jon Gray, going and closer Greg Holland is rested. Gray has shown he can pitch well at Coors Field going 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA in four home starts this season. He was 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA in two starts versus the Braves last season. Mike Foltynewicz is a bottom-of-the-rotation type starter who is showing signs of hitting the wall. He has an 8.31 ERA during his last three starts of which only one lasted more than four innings. Foltynewicz has a 4.88 road ERA. Foltynewicz has to deal with a Rockies lineup that is far more dangerous than Atlanta's offense. Only two teams rank higher than Colorado in runs and batting average.

  The Pirates have not had the year that they would have liked in 2017, however they are only 4 1/2 games back of the division leading Chicago Cubs. We will be backing the Pirates today as they finish their two-game series against Brewers. The starting pitchers for today’s game are for the Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (10-8, 3.96 ERA) and he will face the Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (9-6, 3.72 ERA) Cole has pitched lights out against Milwaukee this year. In 21 innings pitched against the Brewers, he has allowed only three runs. We look for Cole to have another quality start this afternoon.
  As for Nelson the signs of regression are starting. His ERA from July to August has risen almost 3 runs. The last time he faced the Pirates on July 20th he allowed 4 runs in 5 innings pitched. Nelson has pitched well for Milwaukee this year but we have to remember that he was 8-16 with a 4.62 ERA for Milwaukee last year. This would have been a 4% play for us except for the Pirates have struggled of late on offense. We believe that changes today, as they should be able to get to Nelson.
  So let’s get the job done with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The starting pitchers tonight are for the Diamondbacks RH Taijuan Walker (6-6, 3.76 ERA) and he will face the Astros RH Charlie Morton (9-5, 3.83 ERA) Walker has got off to a bad start in August but we like him to bounce back tonight against the Astros, as he had a solid July. Walker has also pitched well on the road this year as his 3.11 ERA in 10 starts would suggest. The Astros won in Arizona yesterday but that was only their second win in eight games. They seem to lack that attention to detail as they are just waiting for the playoffs to start. They send Charlie Morton to the hill tonight and we believe the 33-year-old is starting to show signs of regression. His ERA has gone up one full run from July to August. We are getting some nice plus money with Arizona tonight and we also have a great situational spot as the Astros come home from an eight game road trip without a day off.
  So let’s get the job done with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
