A couple of capable hurlers collide in this interleague matchup and runs would appear to be at a premium.


Stephen Strasburg: He’s 10-4 with a 3.24 ERA. Strasburg returned from the DL and gave up two runs off four hits to go along with six K’s over six innings a loss to the Padres on Thursday. Strasburg looked good overall, with his fastball hitting the upper 90’s (note that he’s 7-2 with a 2.43 ERA on the road this season.)


Dallas Keuchel: He’s 11-2 with a 2.58 ERA. Keuchel gave up three hits while striking out three over seven scoreless in a 3-1 victory over the A’s on Friday. Keuchel now has two straight strong outings underneath his belt and he has to be feeling confident in this spot despite facing the hard-hitting Nats, as he’s 5-1 with a tiny 1.35 ERA at home so far this year.


The bottom line: We’re expecting these studs to battle deep and for this total to ultimately stay UNDER the posted number once it’s all said and done.

Analysis: La Contessa stalked the early pace and did not have enough punch left late, weakening to finish fifth in her debut going 5 1/2 on turf here. She drops in for a tag while switch to the main track. By Congrats and the first foal to race out of a Harlan's Holiday mare. the pedigree suggests dirt might be better for her. Pletcher is 32% winners (with a +ROI) with second out maidens.

Strategic Dreams is a $25,000 purchase making her debut for the RRod barn that is 14% winners with first timers. She is by Archarcharch (9% winners with debut runners) out of a D'wildcat mare, her first foal to race. The works are not much but she does not catch a very tough looking group of state breds here.

Our top pick makes her turf debut here for the Casse barn that is 14% winners moving runners from dirt to turf. This gal was a $825,000 purchase and is a Grade 1 winner on dirt, taking the Spinaway last September here at seven furlongs. She is out of a Carson City mare that has dropped four other winners and three have won on turf.

Rubilinda needs a scratch to get in off the AE list. The filly broke her maiden in her debut at six furlongs and then was a good second against Alw-1 foes at seven furlongs. She is bred to go long, by Frankel out of a stakes placed Invincible Spirit mare. The Brown barn is 27% winners moving runners from sprint to route. She still looks as if she has a ton of upside.
