Mendoza Line Newsletter Tracking (through 10/14/2018)
Not every newsletter gets posted every week, and I'll try to note when the record doesn't include every week of the season.
Another note is that the grading is based on the line indicated in the newsletter at the time of publication, not the closing line. Many of these newsletters will claim a win against the best available line as it moves throughout the week, but these records reflect the outcome against the line they were willing to make a play on in their newsletter.

MEGALOCKS Week 8 1st released pick of the week.....record so far 4-1-2.
Michigan at Michigan St – College Football Predictions
The Game
Here we go!
The battle for the Big Ten East gets real this Saturday as the Wolverines visit East Lansing to take on Michigan St. Sparty is off a yuuuuuge road win over Penn St and will look to continue their recent dominance over Michigan. The Wolverines plastered Wisconsin last week and have rattled off six consecutive wins after their opening week defeat at the hands of Notre Dame.
The Details
Michigan -7 Michigan St (41.5)
MEGALOCKS LINE – Michigan -7.5
“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Michigan 24.25 Michigan St 17.25
The Match-Up:
Michigan offense vs Michigan St defense
The Wolverines have had an efficient and balanced attack this season. They are ranked #28 in rushing offense and #26 in passing efficiency. QB Shea Patterson has been solid completing 69% of his passes with a 10-3 TD to INT ratio and makes the Michigan offense at least good enough to contend for Big Ten title honors and beyond. RB Karan Higdon is averaging a healthy 5.7 YPC and is well on his way to a 1,000-yard season (687 as we go to press). Michigan St is #1 in the FBS in run defense but they did get gashed for 205 yards on the ground vs Penn St (included two big plays). The bad news is the pass defense which has proven to be full of holes. Michigan should be able to have success with TE Zack Gentry and an improving duo at WR (Nico Collins, Donovan Peoples-Jones) and a mobile QB will help the cause. Sparty did a great job containing Trace McSorley last week. Can they do it again?
Michigan St offense vs Michigan defense
This is where things get ugly, at least on paper. Michigan’s defense is one of the best in college football and the stats at the midway point of the season prove that to be true. They are #2 in the FBS in total defense, #15 in rushing defense, #5 in pass efficiency defense and #2 in yards per play (3.93). Theysee are fast and get lots of PENETRATION. Michigan St QB Brian Lewerke had a fine 20-7 TD to INT ratio last season but has struggled in 2018 (8-7). WR Felton Davis is fantastic but they miss counterpart Cody White. The passing game is almost certainly going struggle on Saturday. We don’t anticipate much help from the run game. Their top three RBs average a paltry 3.8, 3.9 and 3.4 YPC. Whether or not LJ Scott plays is irrelevant in our view. It is going to be tough sledding on the ground.
Trends, Intangibles and More!
Michigan St has covered the last 10 (!) games vs Michigan. ‘Nuff said.
Summary
It seems to us it will be a REAL challenge for Michigan St to do much on offense. They have won in miraculous fashion vs Michigan more than once, and covered the number ten straight times, but they better get off to a fast start in this game. Michigan is the more balanced offensive squad and have the MUCH better overall defense. It’s possible to see HC Dantonio to wave the magic wand AGAIN. We will find out on Saturday.
One interesting thing to note is that Michigan St is coming off a HUGE upset win, and as we know, they relish the role of the underdog. They have that role this week but can they empty the tank two weeks in a row? They are coming off a big win over Penn St, but in the last five seasons, they played Illinois, Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland and Iowa before this big rivalry game.
Our initial lean was with the dog early in the week but our subsequent research efforts have pointed us in a different direction. Is that a good thing? Time will tell. There are usually a few “BOOGEYMAN” games every year where we buck the trends and go with our match-up logic. They usually work out, but sometimes they don’t. Gonna roll with Michigan in this spot.
Conclusion
