    Race 5 - Claiming - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $6500 Class Rating: 98

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 117 LBS.; OLDER, 121 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE AUGUST 27 ALLOWED 1 LBS. A RACE SINCE AUGUST 10 ALLOWED 2 LBS. A RACE SINCE JULY 10 ALLOWED 3 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $8,000.

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    The Walker Group Picks

    # 4 ROMANTIC HENRY 2/1

    # 5 STREET GENT 4/1

    # 2 ELSENORDELOSCIELOS 7/2

ROMANTIC HENRY is the strongest wager in this race. Displays the look of a profitable play, averaging a solid 90 speed figure which is one of the best in this group of horses. This gelding obviously likes the distance, going 6 for 25 in his races recently. Looks formidable to be up near the lead at the first call. STREET GENT - Has garnered solid speed figures in dirt sprint races in the past. He looks quite good in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the midpoint. ELSENORDELOSCIELOS - The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Gomez running at this distance are the top in this group.

        Louisiana Downs - Race #4 - Post: 4:32pm - Maiden Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,500 Class Rating: 49

        Rating: 4

        #7 EASY GEAUX (ML=4/1)
        #6 DEEP END (ML=9/2)

EASY GEAUX - A big drop down in class figure points from her Aug 3rd race at Evangeline Downs. Based on that key piece of info, I will give this horse the edge. Filly's last race was against tougher open company. She's in with easier 'state breds' today. Just look at her last speed fig, 52. That one fits well in this bunch. DEEP END - Ran against 'open' company last time around the track, in with state breds today. I really like sprinters that make a fast turnaround. Lara brings her right back. I advise you stay with this hot filly.

        Vulnerable Contenders: #4 ASAMI (ML=3/1), #5 MS SPROUTED GOLD (ML=7/2), #2 TIFFINY'S MUSIC (ML=6/1),

ASAMI - Should have at least finished in the money in the last two months in a short distance race to be worth the chance at minimal odds in a sprint. Hasn't been on the Louisiana Downs oval in the last three weeks. Cause for some concern. Ran her best speed fig last time around the track, but the 'off oval' may have had something to do with it. MS SPROUTED GOLD - You always figure that this equine has a shot to be victorious, but she falters most every time. Don't believe this steed will do much running in today's event. That last speed figure was pedestrian when compared with today's Equibase class figure. TIFFINY'S MUSIC - This racer has not emerged victorious here today in 16 starts. Little chance she wins today. You figure that this horse is going to win just because she's always close. Just doesn't win frequently. Registered a quite unimpressive speed figure in the last race in a $5,000 Maiden Claiming race on August 22nd. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that figure.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - EASY GEAUX - Last two races this filly has shown a steady increase in her speed numbers. This thoroughbred is a top contender against these ponies today.

          # 6 PRIDE OF WILKO 7/2

          # 3 SIMPLYIRRESISTIBLE 6/1

HIGH HEELED is the most favorable bet in this contest and is a competitive value bet given the line. PRIDE OF WILKO - This trainer has done very well as of late with entries racing at this distance and surface. Has quite good early lick and should fare very well against this field. SIMPLYIRRESISTIBLE - This mare has a strong win percentage in turf route races. Looks respectable to be up on the lead at the first call.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #8 - Post: 8:20pm - Maiden Special - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $27,000 Class Rating: 78

              Rating: 4

              #4 JOYEUX (ML=6/1)
              #3 CHOSEN ROYAL (ML=3/1)
              #7 SON WILL (ML=6/1)

JOYEUX - Ran on the wrong surface in his last affair. The speed rating of 79 on Aug 13th at Presque Isle Downs two races back is good enough to win this event. Stay with this horse. No other viable pace gives this horse a strong chance at the winner's circle. Maiden is moving over to the main track, and may not have liked the turf last out. Has a good chance to be a first time winner. CHOSEN ROYAL - This colt recorded a nice speed fig of 75 in his last clash. That speed fig should be high enough to win this time. Had a solid closing move last time around the track, running the last quarter in less than 25 seconds. A similar effort today, and it's straight to the winner's circle. This one has increased his speed ratings from a fig of 67 to 69 to 75 in succession. Scott moves this colt to the main track today. Look for an improvement from the most recent race on the grass. SON WILL - Jockey and conditioner do well when they work together. Ayala and Bourke have been consistent together. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where he finished in his last race (fourth). Should improve today, with some pretty good odds. I believe the addition of blinkers today will help this gelding focus his attention on racing.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #2 STEPHEN'S ANSWER (ML=5/2), #1 CLASSY DEPUTY (ML=4/1), #5 BASE JUMPER (ML=5/1),

STEPHEN'S ANSWER - Ran well to finish second on Aug 23rd, but hasn't had even a single work since then. CLASSY DEPUTY - The result of sixth in the last event shows me that this animal may be tailing off. When looking at today's Equibase class figure, he will have to earn a better speed figure than last time around the track to compete in this dirt route. BASE JUMPER - I'd like to see more conducive recent efforts with oddsmaker's morning line of 5/1. Finished sixth in his most recent race with a mediocre speed figure. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to prove victorious after that in this field.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - JOYEUX - Consider this. Finished seventh on the soft turf last time out. With better footing today, I'd expect a 35 percent improvement in ability.

              STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #4 JOYEUX on the win end if we get at least 3/1 odds

                (923) OAKLAND ATHLETICS VS (924) BOSTON RED SOX.

                Take: UNDER THE TOTAL.

Reason: Your free play for Wednesday, September 13, 2017 comes in baseball as Oakland and Boston clash at Fenway park. Oakland is 3,000 miles from home ranked #19 in runs scored, #24 in batting average. Boston has great defense in the field and strong relief pitching, 8-2 under the total against the AL West. Doug Fister is on a roll, allowing 1, 2, 1 and 1 run his last four starts (30 innings). Play Oakland/Boston Under the total.

                    ERIC SCHROEDER

My free winner is on the St. Louis Cardinals Run Line, over the Cincinnati Reds.

The Redbirds are in second place in the National League Central, while the Cincinnati Reds are in last place. And the fact the Redbirds are on the brink of catching the defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs, it has me thinking St. Louis win this game just as big as last night's 13-4 winner.

St. Louis has won four in a row and nine of 10, while it sports a 41-31 home record on the year after last night's 9-run rout.

The Cardinals had the night off on Monday, and came into this series well-rested for a Reds team that arrived from Queens, New York, where it knocked off the sad, sad Mets. I don't give the Reds a chance.

Cincinnati is two games from being eliminated, and is a dismal 26-47 on the road this season. The Reds are in the bottom of the rankings in September, with just 47 runs scored, while their .257 batting average ranks 14th this month.

I like the motivated Cardinals to win big here.

                      TOMMY BRUNSON

Wednesday's free play is the O's over the Jays to conclude their 3-game series at the Rogers Centre.

Baltimore picked the worst time to go into a tailspin, as their current 5-game slide has put a major dent in their wild card aspirations, but I have a feeling that they will leave Toronto today with the win before heading down to Yankee Stadium for their 4-game set with the Yanks.

Kevin Gausman and Marcus Stroman are your hurlers, and Gausman is fresh off a poor start against the Yankees his last time out, but in the two starts prior to that he had worked almost 14 scoreless innings. Look for him to find his form, and do not expect closer Zach Britton's recent struggles to continue.

Meanwhile Marcus Stroman has gone 4 straight starts without a win, and in his last start against the O's he left early when he took a liner off the bat of Mark Trumbo in the second inning. That came 2 starts ago.

Just get the feeling that Baltimore will not see their skid balloon to 6 in a row.

Let's back the Orioles to stop the bleeding tonight.

My free play is the Toronto Blue Jays, as they'll easily take care of the Baltimore Orioles for a third straight night. I loved the Jays last night, and tonight they're getting money from a guest that is mired in a six-game losing streak.

Though the O's would love nothing more than to keep their wild-card hopes alive, this is a bad spot for them, in having to travel to Toronto after finishing up a series with the streaking Cleveland Indians.

You saw how futile the O's were the last two night, with a 4-3 loss on Monday and a 3-2 setback last night. They're just a deflated squad right now.

Meanwhile, Toronto stepped into this series after back-to-back wins over the Detroit Tigers, the first time the Jays have scored consecutive wins since mid-August, and now have the momentum from a four-game win streak after last night's gritty win.

The O's are hitting a mere .213 this month - third-worst in the majors. The struggle continues tonight, as the Jays win again.

This play just missed out on our premium card. The Cleveland Indians will look for their 21st straight win on Wednesday afternoon, and with a nice high total, the under has the value.
On the mound for the Indians is Mike Clevinger who has been dominant as of late.
He has gone 18 innings over his lat three starts and hasn't given up a run. One of those starts was against this Tigers team and he only gave up three hits.
On the mound for the Tigers is Buck Farmer who is coming into this game off the best start of his season.
Against the Blue Jays he only gave up one run in five innings. I don't think the Tigers will score many runs, so he will have a lot of runs to work with.
Some trends to note. Under is 8-1-1 in Indians last 10 overall.
                            Back the Under.
